Need set-it-and-forget firewall - Wilders Security Forums:: a licensed user of all three programs (Outpost 2.1, Zone Alarm 3.5 The PC wont be stealth but thats a firewall feature that can be much overrated, IMO. http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=34677HOME | Hi,
I tried this with both Outpost Firewall and Security Suite, result is the same. I installed them under Windows XP. Did not modify any part of the configuration after install.
I run PC Flank test as recommended. However, certain tests fail. In particular, Outpost Firewall seems to leave HTTP and NetBIOS ports (80, 135-139) in closed state rather than stealth state. you can also try the GRC tests HERE (https://grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2) <-linky - they tend to be more informative for me.
I tried the test, what to do ? if we receive such information :
"Greetings!
Without your knowledge or explicit permission, the Windows networking technology which connects your computer to the Internet may be offering some or all of your computer's data to the entire world at this very moment!"
if you are getting the same results i did, there is no problem, thats what it should do.

the most common reason for this is that you are using a hardware router to connect to the internet (or your isp is) and you are testing the router instead of your pc.

'common ports' - "Your system has achieved a perfect "TruStealth" rating. Not a single packet — solicited or otherwise — was received from your system as a result of our security probing tests. ... "
'all service ports' - the same thing - all 1055 ports are green
what could be the problem ?
read the 'online scans...' faq linked in my post.
also, the details of what ports are shown open/closed/ is needed here. see attached 'common ports' & 'all service ports' tests, if you show other than all green, which aren't?
if you are the only pc on your home lan, i'd also recommend turning off netbios, the wwdc utilty HERE (http://www.firewallleaktester.com/wwdc.htm) will do that. it also turns off (or back on) other difficult to fix ports.
