Hi everybody I just installed the mighty firewall but being the newbie I am I'm having some troubles configuring it, so I thought you experts could lend me a hand.
The only problem I've encountered so far with Outpost is the fact that it totally paralizes Azureus (A bittorrent (P2P) client) and Emule, even when they're in the "trusted" zone.
Azureus has a page explaining that you should switch ports if you're firewalled. I did so: the program worked for a minute then Outpost made a blocking sound and everything stopped.
As with Emule nothing ups and nothing downs. Checking the firewall, Outpost shows the blocked attempts of both applications (Azureus and Emule) and I don't know what to do with it.
Could please somebody help me? I'm fairly sure there are plenty of people out there having this same newbie problem as me.
Thanks in advance!
Take a look at this post (http://outpostfirewall.com/forum/showpost.php?p=112517&postcount=6);)
Also disable everything in the Ethernet tab: in the attack detection plugin:)
When I restart Azureus itself (http://img20.imageshack.us/img20/3580/capture032020060903499bz.jpg), Javaw launches Azureus as a hidden process and Outpost will ask for it, although Azu works properly (http://img217.imageshack.us/img217/5628/capture032020060857574ce.jpg) when Java is blocked, even with ICMP (IGMP) blocked. I use those rules (http://img217.imageshack.us/img217/3887/capture032020060857440ku.jpg) (I do not have outbound to 80 and 443, but it should be there for proper updating of the tracker). FirePost,
Just bothered to read your link Outpost Pro + netbeans 5 = BSOD (Crash) (http://www.outpostfirewall.com/forum/showthread.php?t=16789)
It may be true in that particular case as to JAVAW.EXE needing loopback, although i don't generally give applications rule entries unless they are absolutley needed.
From my point of view, i have yet to experience such Java related BSODs!!
From my point of view, i have yet to experience such Java related BSODs!!I have never had it either. But since I already had the loopback enabled I would not. You do not run a typical setup on your system and let us not forget you were still running 2.7 at least a few weeks ago.
The netbeans BSOD was only the lastest post about issue of Javaw.exe. Here are a few more to refresh your memory about the lack of prompts and the problems people were having. HELP! I can't allow outgoing connections (http://outpostfirewall.com/forum/showthread.php?t=16096)
Thanks everybody for the suggestions I'd still have some questions:
1) I followed the rule and "blocked every outbound udp" but since it seemed to stop the application from running I turned the rule off, and now every now and then promts show up...
2) what should I do with these hidden processes you've been talking about, and how do I do it (where is the menu, etc.)
Thanks
Actually JAVAW.EXE is no longer the executable requiring net access, it is now Azureus itself...My experience with both 2.3.0.6 and 2.3.0.7 was javaw.exe still required loopback and hidden process launch permissions to work correctly. With 2.3.0.6, Azureus.exe required access rules similar to those in your link. Since the rules for javaw.exe were already there one might not notice the remaining requirement. Without allowing it there are issues with java applications. One of those issues is freezes which "totally paralizes Azureus" sounded like. It also can cause BSOD when attempting to run Java applications so taking care of it now prevents trouble later.
Outpost Pro + netbeans 5 = BSOD (Crash) (http://www.outpostfirewall.com/forum/showthread.php?t=16789)
The loopback (remote host 127.0.0.1) has already been mentioned in my link! The link discussed rules for the torrent clients. It makes no mention of rules for Javaw.exe. It is still the process launcher for Java applications. I mentioned it because it still plays a role in the process and does need the loopback rules.
Why confuse things, when the situation is already in hand!!The information in the link is incomplete related to Azureus.

Very strange:confused: I always use rules wizard when using Outpost and have never had a prompt for JAVAW.EXE to gain it's loopback. Can anyone else confirm this for me?
The information in the link is incomplete related to Azureus.
Really, even though there are numerous people using these rules already:p
A valid point you have made, is that concerning Oupost's Hidden Process Control;)
Hello bochaz,
One should also allow Javaw.exe as a hidden process and ensure it has inbound and outbound TCP loopback (remote host 127.0.0.1) to use Azureus since it is JAVA based.

That was stunningly helpful. Thanks a lot :D :D
utorrent (http://www.utorrent.com/) is my preferred Bittorrent Client lately.
Requires no installation, 160 KB in size, memory usage hasn't creeped over 6000K and doesn't require JAVAW:mad:
There are lots of problems with Outpost and Java it seems, however i have used all builds of Outpost from 2.5 through to the latest build 3.5 with no problems Java/P2P:confused:
