  • Every time I go in for an exam and a pap, it hurts me very badly. The last time I went in, the speculum hurt me so bad I started to cry, and my doctor asked me if I'd been sexually abused. I haven't. Even when the doctor is just looking with her fingers it hurts. I know this shouldn't be. Every other girl I know says that the only part that hurts is when they're scraping the cervix cells, and that's only a tiny bit. Why do these things hurt me so badly?

  • Mostly likely it's because you are tensing up. Every time you go back you are dreading it more and more and tensing up more and more.

    Before you go back, try to think of a nice calming thought that you could use to divert your attention from what's going on. Just remind yourself that the discomfort is only temporary and will be over before you know it.
