PETITION TO SAVE THE DESTRUCTION OF ISLAMIC LANDMARKS:
Since the passage of a law in 1994 authorizing the destruction of historic sites, Saudi Arabia has been quietly destroying landmarks that, by right, belong to the entire Muslim ummah and not to Saudi Arabia alone. The reason for this destruction is the Saudi fear that these landmarks will lead to idolatry/polytheism.
It is reported that the house that Prophet Muhammad lived in with his wife Khadija, may already have been destroyed. Also 95 % of historic sites in Makkah have already have been demolished. Women in Islam « Evi Syar’i:: Jul 20, 2008 A number of women in Saudi Arabia have signed a petition calling for radical reform to tackle growing extremist Islamic influence in the http://evisyari.wordpress.com/2008/07/20/women-in-islam/HOME | Discouraging Dissent: Intimidation and Harassment of Witnesses :: 43 The Supreme Court is presently hearing a petition from the National Human 49 In a landmark ruling, the Supreme Court overturned the acquittals in the http://www.hrw.org/backgrounder/asia/india/gujarat/2.htmHOME |
The Saudi government wanted to destroy the birthplace of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) in the 1950s, when a concerned citizen persuaded then King Abdel-Aziz to allow him to protect it by building a library over it. There is now another move to raze this library and build a US$3 billion Jabal Omar complex consisting of a parking lot, hotel towers and apartment complexes.
Dr. Sami Angawi, a Saudi architect and sole activist against this destruction, has stated that the bulldozers come stealthily and within an hour the site is razed and concrete poured in. By our signatures we wish to pressure the Saudi government to refrain from destroying historic sites in Saudi Arabia. Especially, all plans to destroy the library that covers Prophet Muhammad’s birthplace should be stopped with immediate effect.
Sincerely,
The Undersigned
