Gods not going to help you, but I suggest to go to your library and get out a Portuguese primer and other study guides.
There is nothing you can learn that cant be learned its easy.
All you need is love.

the best way to learn a language is by surrounding yourself with it e.g radiostations music, tv people ect, then you should start to pick up the basics from there, the cd's and books aren't very elpful and make you sound stupid to the locals just try to immerse yourself into te population, learn certain phrases, like where is the toilet, i would like one beer please you know little things like that. xxx good luck and hope this helped xxxxx

It is not that big of a problem, you can get a tutor, when you get to brazil have a little computer English Portuguese dictionary, and just to let u know, people in Brazil learn English in school.
Recordings are a really good way. Otherwise, can you find a South American Portuguese speaker near you? You can learn grammar and vocabulary from a book or on line, but you really need to hear it and speak it.
The best way to learn something without a formal format is to sing the other language's songs because singing connects the left and right hemispheres of the brain and accelerates learning so get an english translation of a Portuguese song so you know what it means then sing the song in Portuguese

I don't know about Portuguese, but I know that there are quite a few youtube lessons for other languages. I am doing a Gaelic course there and it's much better than you would think. I would actually recommend heading over to youtube and searching there. I know several people who have found really good programs there - not just Gaelic. I'd give it a shot, much better than paying for it and you'll likely find an online community in the comments.

Barring the funds to buy the discs, find a local or nearby university and look up the language departments. You might also look into local international centers. If you live near a major city, there's going to be someone there who speaks the language.
And I meant what I said about paying attention. If you can't focus on the language and make it a part of your life, you won't retain it.
