I am a college student , I am currently in second year of B.Sc ( computer science ) ; I scored only 50 % in my first year & I am going to fail miserably in the first term of my second year ,
Will my marks in first & second year affect my career , like Wont I get a good job or something ??
In the Philippines, that will depend upon the kind of school you are studying. Recent surveys (no offense meant to the graduates) that students from exclusive schools like DLSU, AdMU, MIT, etc still gets good jobs regardless of their college grades as most companies agrees that it is really difficult to study in those schools. However, if your school is not that well known, I suggest you study really hard as it will largely affects your career.
EDIT: It's not the end of the world. You can still make a lot of changes especially if you make good in the next few years!. Just make sure you'll do well and everything will be fine
Good luck
First and most importantly, if you are considering suicide get to your campus health care centre immediately and talk to one of the Doctors there. Your present state of mind is far more important than your marks, ok? Suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem. You need someone to guide you through these tough times you are experiencing.
Secondly, your poor marks may simply be reflecting the fact that your program of study isn't right for you. Did you get into computer science for the right reasons? Have you always done well in this subject area and had good marks in the past or were you "guided" into this program by some well-meaning person who didn't realize that your academic strengths lie in another subject area?
Try to think about your education as just a meaningful portion of your life........not the end of the journey. If you decide to change programs, sure you will be in school a little longer than you had planned but you will still graduate, still find a job, and you will likely find a job that you LIKE. If you are not getting good marks in computer science now, can you imagine the stress you would be under if you had a full time job in this area and had to perform in order to get paid?
Students change their course of study all the time. It is not easy going from secondary school to University/College and pretend to know exactly what it is you want to do with the rest of your life. If you have given it your best shot, then go to speak to a student counsellor and don't leave until you have a new game plan that you are happy with.
I am a T.A. in a Canadian University and I talk to students on a daily basis. It takes a while to find the right path so don't be so hard on yourself. Most adults go through about 5 different careers before they find the one they like.
definitely it will affect you in getting a job... But it wont affect you in performing your job... It will be tough to enter a company... Once you get your chance you can prove yourself..
Marks and degree are just your gate pass to enter a company.. it will not affect you once you get inside...
So try to make at least 60 to 65 % what a company expects to get in...
If you have an idea of becoming a entrepreneur, just don't bother abt your marks...
