I would suggest having the options not only - Publish on, Publish Now, and Draft, but also Publish as Private.
Contacts and Friends - I'd even go a step further and allow for the creation of various categories of "contacts & friends" Therefore some people in various categories could see some posts you allow, but not all, etc, etc, according to the type of "contact & friends" they are. However, I see how this works, but what if I want to keep some of my posts, as a post by post basis as being "for my eyes only", while the others are public and for those on my buddies/contacts list, etc. There should be a option for "completely private" for each individual post.
Right now there is only the options for 1.Save as Draft, 2.Publish on, 3. Publish now. There should be a 4th option 4. Private
This would likely prove to be more flexible.
The only way I see to do this is by setting them as "save as draft".
