But, i pretended I don't know the number he is using so I ask, "who is this, do i know u?" after that he didn't reply...
I wanna know if shall I send him an SMS giving him the signal that I knew it was him when he sent the message? Pls. I need all your help! thanx!

Don't respond. He just can't let it go. If you respond in any way, he will keep going and keep that little string attached to you.
Although I enjoyed the other response to pretend it's another guy to make him admit it's him, I don't like the games. And, in this day and age, we do have to be careful not to taunt someone and make them jealous. Sometimes people do really stupid, crazy things when their emotions are out of control. On the weak end, it will just prolong the contact---on the wild end, it could backfire and make things worse.

If you truly want to find out.. There is no harm in doing it. Your not going to die if you two talk. Its healthier than all the wondering and worrying that you are probably doing over this. Text him back, and see. Maybe he still has feelings for you, and if you feel the same way, that's great!
