I believe you should respect the laws of the country you are in and therefore if they flouted it they should suffer the consequences!

People should obey the laws of the land, and anyone who goes to a country with sharia or similar laws is a fool to do what they did. i have little sympathy for their situation i am sorry to say.

They should feel the full force of the law in that country.
The reason behind my thinking is they shouldn't be let off or be given an easy ride (as if they have already had that!) due to pressure from the UK government.
By doing that we then be under pressure to go easy on internationals breaking our laws when they are here, and that should never happen.
I have no sympathy for them, they knew the score and were stupid, i'm more worried about how this could affect our foreign law breakers and how we deal with them.
They did the crime, now they've got to do the time. They were stupid basically. I don't think they should get like the maximum punishment, but they still should be punished according to the justice system of the land. The worst thing is, they have shown no remorse or regret for the offense they've caused to that country. They've just acted like the victims. They are just victims to their own foolishness and arrogance.
They knew the rules and broke them, so they deserve whatever they got.
It may seem harsh but they broke the law of the counrty they were in. They should be treated no different to someone who lives in that country. Everyone knows that the laws over there are strict and besides making love in a public place is not allowed in the UK so they really cant use 'we didnt know' as an excuse.
It is a little harsh and they should have been fined heavily and banned from entering Dubai ever again.

As long as there is ample warning and methods to determine the rules of a locale, visitors should be required to respect the local customs. In many countries in the mid-east and in Asia, tourists are, in fact, NOT told what the local traditions are. I know the customs in Saudi Arabia and Syria and I would either not visit or be prepared to observe them (the penalties there could be death be violating certain traditions).
I think they should at least be banned from entering the country ever again, that and a huge monetary fine.
I am amazed at what people think is acceptable behaviour and even more shocked at what people think is acceptable while on holiday.
Frankly, having sex in a public place is not how ANY civilised person should conduct themselves. Nonetheless different cultures have different sensibilities and visitors to foreign countries should have respect and behave appropriately. I lean toward the view that the punishment should be appropriate to the crime in the country where it was committed.
