Hi
Attachment plugin cannot detect correct extension if filename contains more than one "."
See attached screenshot, outpost has a BUG that allows a file defined for attachment quarantine to walk right througth the armor, if the filename is eg like this "name.something1.something2.doc"
the extension .doc is not recognised here!!!
(PS not sure if its actually because of the file name, but fact is that OP let the attachment through unnoticed)
I have mailed OP about this

Hi Firepost
could you elaborate on "format name" and "exclusion" - where can i set that?
regards Nolan
Format name = A file named the same way with the space and date in it. Perhaps something such as "testfile 28.03.06.doc". Or send the same attachment to yourself. :)
I was wondering if the source of the email was a website that was in the "Active Content" exclusions list.
Hi Nolan,
Are you sure you do not have the site listed in your AC plugin site exclusion list?
What do you mean when you write the website is allowed in Firefox or how is it allowed in Firefox? Just curious :)
so far it appears that it is only attachments from a specific source (its always the same - that i trust - sender), where the attachments are NOT checked by OP. As if it is allowed without quarantaining.
Any suggestions ?Try sending yourself an attachment with the same format name. Does that do the same thing? Is the source for the email in your exclusions? It is interesting.
Hi
i have checked - its not in my AC exclusion.
In FF i allow as a popup wondow the "website.com" (mails from this site is named name@website.com)
Nolan can you verify that the doc attachment is missed if only sent to you by a specific person. Otherwise OP's Attachment Quaranting plugin catches it and renames it. Is that right?
Yes iy seems so
What email client are you using? Outlook express 6
Very odd.
regards Nolan
Hi Minoka
good thinking - i checked this and i didnt find any. I removed .DOC from OP as an item to place in quarantine, and recreated it. The first test hereafter showed attachment interception as expected. I hope it did the trick - otherwise ill let you know again:)
Thanks guys....

Hi
this is indeed very strange - so far it appears that it is only attachments from a specific source (its always the same - that i trust - sender), where the attachments are NOT checked by OP. As if it is allowed without quarantaining. Print Page - eee PC debate:: Edit: but the latest version, with a bigger screen, has an XP option. .. Any suggestions ?

How about my second question Nolan?
Are you sure that you have a tick mark by Enable Attach. Quarantine?
It is strange and I don't have a fix for your other then recommending a clean OP install 1. Although that seems a lot of work to repair a minor error.
Perhaps you have a minor registry corruption that might be repaired by turning off the DOC option and the Attachment plugin and rebooting. I'm not sure. It's most likely something that Agnitum can help you with: 1
Hi
it just happened again - this time with a attached WMV file - OP didnt intercept. I tried to remove the rule and reinsert it - it didnt do the trick this time. It was in this case from some other sender - it appears to happen some times and some times OP reacts as expected. Strange indeed:(
Regards Nolan
Very odd. I just sent myself two identical doc files but with different names. Both were reported and renamed.
I'm using 3.5.641.458 is that your version as well?

Hi
yes ill try and wait to see if its reproduced - otherwise i may opt for a clean install - but so far i havent seen it again. Ill let you know if it happends again and if any remedy i try would solve it...
best regards Nolan:)
What security settings are you using in OE? I ask because OE uses the security settings per IE and perhaps the site is in IE's Trusted Zones. Just trying to eliminate possibilities...
Hi Manny
sorry i missed that. Yes i have it enabled, and most attachments are actualle treated correctly, but at can be seen om my attached screenshot this attacnmedt slipped through teh armor - strange

Hi
i have tried to forward the very same file that OP let through to my self again, this time it was caught.
I checked - i cannot find anywhere where the mail address/extension should be allowed or the like. It only walks right through OP (at least thats what i have observed so far) when mail attachments are send from this specific person (which i know and trust)
The only thing i can think of is in firefox, the very same website is allowed, from where the mail attachment in OP is not intercepted.
regards Nolan
Good thinking on your part too: hopefully you have solved your problem for good!
