My computer got a virus, and in an attempt to get rid of it, my little sister took it upon herself to erase all of my files off of my computer. Since she obviously did not know what she was doing, I still had the virus. the only thing I knew to do was reload Win XP.
My problem is that when I did that, my product key on the back of my computer didn't work, the online option told me the key was invalid and to try calling. So I called and both the automated and personal teller told me that my copy of Windows was an ingenuine copy, when I know for a fact that it is. Evidently, the virus I had screwed that up too. Anyway, I used XP for the 30 trial period and when it expired I just never logged off, using only standby instead of stutdown, hoping that would last me a while. It didn't. My firefox & opera web browsers both froze up on me so I was forced log off, and now I can't get back on my computer without activating windows, which I can't do. So, basically, I'm going to have to get a whole new version of Windows, but I have already recovered most of the files my sister deleted and I don't want to lose them again.
Is there ANY way I can reload Windows without losing those files?
If you still have the virus, she did'nt erase all the files on the computer.

you can try running a repair on windows all over again, just replacing the system files, and it may restart the 30 day trial again. giving you time to get in and backup your files on a USB flash drive. the problem of your key being not genuine is a different problem all together, you may need to purchase a new copy of XP.
no there isn't.
just burn the files to a dvd or cd and then reload windows, then put the files back where you want them.
you will have to save everything you want on a travel drive or something then get it wiped
It's weird, Microsoft should ask you for another number printed in that sticker so they can corroborate that it's genuine, same case when you buy Windows in a box, well if you have all your files backed up, the only thing to do is to reformat the HD and type the license key you have hoping that this time Microsoft recognize your copy.
