Rap is more like a play of the words, the beat is made up by the words and is just as important as the background beat. Where as HipHop is more of musical beats and the flow created by sounds to create the music.

Hip-Hop is more instrumentals and less lyrics. HH has a laid back sound and dance and is more for dancing and flow than lyrics.
Rap is actual lyrics and heavy beats.
