When i dubbletclick on a Word template (.dot) Word open the file as a .dot and not as a .doc, based on the template. Dos any one hav eany idear why? I have tryed to almost any thing, including deleting reg.settings for the Office applications. But no luck!
I dont have write permissions to the file share where the DOT-file is located. And if i try the "Save as" i just save the file as a template on my default templatelocation. Should i mention, that the files in this example, is open from a hyperlink on our Intranet. (html page). Same result as if i'm opening a DOT file from any ware on my local computer. I have found the solution.
The default behavior for the filetype DOT, should not be "Open" but "New" :iwantatten:
So this was not an Office probleme but a change in Windows.
Thanks for all your replyes :bye:

Hmmm i don't know. Opening a word template from outside the Word environment is fine by my reckoning.
Word should then generate a new document based on that template.
Forms are often made as templates in corporate environments. Users simply open the .dot template and fill out the form (which becomes .doc on opening).
There is no need to open the form up from within word. Thats one of the key characteristics of a template.
What happens when you try to save the file under the same name as the original .dot file.
Does it let you?
Maybe the files are in your template location
Although it is generally a good idea to save any document you wish to use as a template with the .dot extension, a quick way to make a document a template is simply to save it in the Templates folder. By default, any document saved in this folder functions like a template.
