When I'm at work, I connect to our server via the network, by using its local IP instead of the host name. The strange thing is, when I connect via the IP, it takes forever to resolve for some reason. I use WS_FTP as my client, and it will say "Connecting to *.*.*.4 Port 21...", but it will take forever. Sometimes I'll get a "Receive Error - Blocking Call Cancelled !Connection Failed". I keep hitting connect until it goes through. When I connect using the host name, which requires going through the (remote) DNS server, it connects with no problem, except it's a lot slower than going right into it. And our network here isn't exactly slow, and the server is 5 ft. from my desk. It does the same thing with Telnet. ftp://ftp.auscert.org.au/pub/auscert/papers/unix_security_checklist:: checklist will be placed in the same area on the ftp server and should be cost in ensuring that strange permission combinations have not http://cnscenter.future.co.kr/resource/security/os/unix_security_checklist.pdfHOME | BM: Install-Setup [Archive] - Page 4 - NOVELL FORUMS:: Issue with new IP Range on Border. I've checked all the settings on wuftp on the server, and it seems fine. Does anyone know what the possible cause and solution to this is?
Thanks :)

That worked beautifully! Thank you! I had our entire LAN entered in the hosts file, but I guess I didn't enter it correctly. Why it still worked, I don't know. I had 10.0.0. #AHI LAN entered, but I added 10.0.0.13 #Jim's Workstation and that did the trick! :) Thanks! No, I've used cuteftp and didn't like it at all. WS_FTP has served me well, and I don't plan on changing - until a problem arises that requires me to change, which this obviously wasn't.

Also ditch ws_ftp and use bulletproof or cuteftp.
It sure sounds like DNS problems.
Check /etc/resolv.conf on your server.
Can you resolve your workstation from the server? If the machine isn't in DNS then you could add it to /etc/hosts.
I've had these problems at home when connecting to my local unix machines since it want's to resolve the IP when connecting via telnet/ssh or ftp and I solved it by adding the machine to /etc/hosts
Good Luck!
