2009 Summer College Student Internships (Automotive) - Finance :: 2009 Summer College Student Internships (Automotive) - Finance/Accounting - Are you a college or graduate school student interested in the fast-paced http://www.indeed.com/viewjob?t=2009+Summer+College+Student+Internships+(Automotive)+-+Finance/Accounting&c=Johnson+Controls&l=Plymouth,+MI&jk=9fe05054fc032dfeHOME | I am a pre-medical undergraduate student interested in Emergency
Medicine and Psychiatry. How can I find an (unpaid is fine) intership
in the Syracuse, NY area for this summer? I do not mean links to pages
that are just places to search for jobs, I'm looking for STUDENT
internships that provide patient contact, not clerical work. Thanks.
Your college/university should have contacts/referrals for summer
placements. Check with Student Services.
I would like to stress that I am looking for an internship around the
Syracuse, NY area (NOT Rochester, NY that's only where I attend
college during the academic year, I DO NOT live there during the
summer.) Any medical field that includes patient contact. Thanks.
drtrek1,
What school are you currently attending for your undergraduate
studies? Where will you be going to medical school? How close to
Syracuse, NY is the "Syracuse area"? Answers to these questions will
help Researchers do a better job of getting information for you.

Drtrek1,
I work in an ER. Why not consider something paid which offers you
direct patient contact? ER techs don't make a lot of money but they
get a lot of hands-on patient experience ... and a chance to interface
with the ER docs. You'll meet a lot of psych patients in the ER too! A
high percentage of our techs have been med or pre-med students.

I currently am a sophomore at the University of Rochester. I hope to
apply to medical school early admission this summer to Upstate Medical
University in Syracuse, NY. By Syracuse area, I mean anywhere within
a 50 mile radius of Syracuse, NY or about an hour's drive.
drtrek1,
Unfortunately, most summer medical internships that involve patient
contact are reserved for medical students, rather than undergrad
pre-med students. I am going to post what I have found, in hopes that
it may help you.
A good place to start might be is the University of Rochester Medical
Center's "Friends of Strong":
"Friends of Strong is a dynamic volunteer organization which advances
the mission of Strong Memorial Hospital... There are many jobs that
need to be donefrom assisting in the Family Waiting Room, working as
an ambassador, organizing fundraisers, or working with patients
directly... For more information about volunteer opportunities please
call the Friends of Strong office at 585-275-2420 or email us at

drtrek1,
Actually, the reason I was referring you to the Univ of Rochester's ER
and Psychiatry Departments was with the hope that they may have an
"in" with institutions in the Syracuse area, and be able to make a
phone call on your behalf, or to give you an idea where to go
yourself.
I spoke with the Residency Director of SUNY Upstate Medical Center's
Emergency Medicine program. She conferred with the person who helps
their med students set up "shadowing" and other "hands-on"
experiences. Their consensus was that this sort of thing would not be
available to pre-med students because of the medico-legal liability
implications. However, Mary Lewis, the medical students "internship"
coordinator, says you are welcome to call her at 315-464-4363. I would
do so, explain your situation to her, and see if she might have any
suggestions as to how you could find what you are seeking.
The gist of what I have found in all of my research is that such
"hands-on" contact as you are seeking is not available for non-medical
students, mostly because of liability issues. Something you can try is
to contact the hospitals and medical centers in the Syracuse area to
see what sorts of general volunteer positions might be available.

I regret that I was unable to find exactly what you needed.
