Tanzanian authorities reported the outbreak of a deadly viral swine disease on Sunday that has killed nearly 140 pigs in two regions in less than two weeks.
"The viral disease has so far caused death to 138 pigs," said Charles Nyamgunda, permanent secretary in the livestock and fisheries ministry.

The ministry ordered the movement of pigs or their products, such as pork and sausages, to be highly restricted to control the spread of the disease, as well as the destruction of pigs in the affected regions.
Dozens of pigs died when the disease hit Tanzania in 1993.
In the latest outbreak, 117 pigs died in the central region of Morogoro and while 21 others died in the commercial capital Dar es Salaam.

The disease was first reported on February 20, the statement said.
In August 2005, South African authorities began culling the first of more than 20,000 pigs in the country's southeastern region after veterinary officials confirmed the outbreak of swine fever.
The disease only affects pigs and has no effect on humans or other animals but it could potentially damage the pork industry and international trade.
