Several religions believe in an afterlife in Heaven or Hell, others believe we simply wink out of existence, others believe in reincarnation.
Take your choice in what to believe in, but we will only know for sure when we actually do the deed and die.
I think you hang around your body for awhile and then go to a high spiritual plane where there is a lot of life energy and you replay your entire life from beginning to end. When that is done, you look for another human body to incarnate into in order to experience more earthly desires.
What happens after we have slept (if we don't get any dream)? I think the same thing happens. Death is a permanent sleep. After death all your knowledge, wishes, likings, interests, love and affections which gathered in you in the form of several spirits scatters and leaves you and goes to different parts. The memory gets erased like computer's memory which gets erased as soon as the electricity stopped. So don't believe if you happen to hear any dead man or woman's voice that they are they. After death no one returns in the form of spirit. There is no possibility. There are spirits for all sorts of voices. They can talk in the voice familiar to you. But they are not they. In those spirits some may be good but you must be careful. You should not involve in dangerous missions. Then what is hell and punishment? It is there. The spirits which misguided the people are punished.
That depends on which view you believe in. Personally, I'm trying to get out of life alive.
What? It's been done at least once before, according to the Bible, so it is possible.
Now, I just have to find a god to help me.

I would rather ask myself: "what happens before we die and what we can do about it", than asking "what happens after we die and nothing we can do about it". I'm convinced that nothing happens after we die, and there is no Heaven or Hell. My argument to back up that statement is that: firstly, no empirical evidence of afterlife has been found so far ; secondly, belief in reward or punishment in another plane of existence is not only delusional, but also discriminating and morally bad because once a person dies, they should be freed from any further bondage, be it "reward" or "punishment". It's cruel and morally corrupt to put anyone under eternal torture.

Question: "What does the Bible say about death?"
Answer: The Bible presents death as separation: physical death is the separation of the soul from the body, and spiritual death is the separation of the soul from God.
Death is the result of sin. For the wages of sin is death, Romans 6:23a. The whole world is subject to death, because all have sinned. By one man sin entered the world, and death by sin, and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned (Romans 5:12). In Genesis 2:17, the Lord warned Adam that the penalty for disobedience would be death you will surely die. When Adam disobeyed, he experienced immediate spiritual death, which caused him to hide from Lord God among the trees of the garden (Genesis 3:8). Later, Adam experienced physical death (Genesis 5:5). On the cross, Jesus also experienced physical death (Matthew 27:50). The difference is that Adam died because he was a sinner, and Jesus, who had never sinned, chose to die as a substitute for sinners (Hebrews 2:9). Jesus then showed His power over death and sin by rising from the dead on the third day (Matthew 28; Revelation 1:18). Because of Christ, death is a defeated foe. O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? (1 Corinthians 15:55; Hosea 13:14).
For the unsaved, death brings to an end the chance to accept God s gracious offer of salvation. It is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment (Hebrews 9:27). For the saved, death ushers us into the presence of Christ: To be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord (2 Corinthians 5:8; Philippians 1:23). So real is the promise of the believer s resurrection that the physical death of a Christian is called sleep (1 Corinthians 15:51; 1 Thessalonians 5:10). We look forward to that time when there shall be no more death (Revelation 21:4).
