What are some examples of Hip-hop and some of Rap?
F all these culture answers: here is the basic truth that everyone misunderstands--
Hip-Hop is the genre, rap isn't- when people ask you what type of music you like the correct thing to say is hip-hop NOT rap. Rapping is what they do alternatively to singing.
If your favorite type of music is rock you don't tell people that your favorite kind of music is "singing" do you?

Hip Hop is culture. Rap is the music of that culture. People are trying to make a differentiation between the two when there isn't one. People who think there is, are just ignorant about the culture and its music.
Hip Hop: Yung Joc, Shop Boyz, Jibbs, Mike Jones ETC.
Rap: Eminem, Jay-Z, Nas, Biggie, Pac ETC.
Hip Hop is about the club banger music that talkes about cash, ice, whips and hoes...Rap talks about the violence, emotions, disses and aggresion. I'd take rap anyday...better music all the time.
Hip-Hop has a brain, and Rap doesn't... JK.
Rap is a form of music (that usually glorifies violence, sex, degredation, ignorance) that is it. (examples -- gangsta rap, Krunk, Southern Rap, Eminem, Biggie, Lil' Wayne, Big Pun, Fat Joe, most crappy rap music). Rap is mostly a black or hispanic form of music, Eminem is the one exception I can think of.
Hip-Hop is a culture that offers an alternative to the violence and ignorance that is pervasive in the inner city -- it includes Music, Graf writing, Bboying, slam poetry, fashion, etc etc. (Hip-Hop music is like KRS-ONE, Common, Dead Prez, Talib Kweli, Typical Cats, Atmosphere, Kanye West -- the music has a message and embraces positivity of the other aspects of hip-hop culture). Hip Hop is multi-racial (black, white, hispanic, asian, everyone), although the majority of original Hip-Hoppers in the 1970s were black or hipsanic from NYC.
