1991 Chevrolet Cheyenne, 305, 5.0L V8, Automatic
I'm going out of town tomorrow to pick up a project car and its about 2hrs away. I looked around the web for some sites that might give me some insight on the towing capacity of the truck. The car that is going to be towed (on a car dolly), weighs just slightly north of 3,000 lbs (88 300ZX Turbo) and although I'm pretty confident that the truck can handle it, I just want to make sure it can. I checked multiple sites such as Edmunds.com and Intellichoice.com to name a few, but have come up short. If you guys could help, I would greatly appreciate it. honda:: st air filter for 1990 c1500 chevrolet pick. nissan-ultima.mastr.fr.cr subaru-forester.mastr.infos.st dodge truck towing capacity. honda accord body parts http://cisites.freehostia.com/honda61c.htmlHOME |
watch for hill , that truck will haul that car like it isn't there , just watch for your suspension that truck is pretty old make sure that car is strapped back as far as it will go on the trailer . and empty your pockets for fuel its gunna guzzle that gas like nothing but other wise you should not have a problem hauling it ....... i suggest putting it in a low gear for starting of then shift into 2nd 3rd then drive easier on the tranny good luck Yahoo! What is the towing capacity of a 1991 Chevrolet Cheyenne C1500? http://answers.yahoo.com/my/profile?show=oHvE9kkEaaHOME | Didn't read your question, but I have the formula for any vehicle,it's as follows.
The rated HP. of the vehicle x 10 minus the Weight of the vehicle. that is the safe weight that vehicle can tow without taxing the engine.
Any vehicle can pull more weight for some time but you'll suffer a shorter longevity of that vehicle.
Without meaning disrespect for other answerer's, engine power is not a big factor in determining how much load you can tow. Tow capacity ratings are more concerned with the vehicle structure and transmission and axle strength. Rear springs are also a consideration,as heavier duty trucks have thicker spring packs. Also,if it is an automatic trans truck,a trans fluid cooler is a must if you want to haul heavy loads such as a car. The extra weight will overheat the transmission and burn the fluid.
I have a '96 Chevy K1500 305 automatic. I tow my '74 Chevy Nova on a 16' tandem axle trailer. The total load is about 4500 lbs and it pulls fine if you are not in a hurry. You won't have any trouble towing this car home. Good luck on your project!
