What kind of dog would fit these descriptions?
Published by: cfz 2009-01-08

  • I had to give up my first dog about 2 years ago due to many reasons(he grew too big, bothered neighbors so they complained too much, etc.)
I was very sad that I had to give him up,I still miss him very much. ://
But,I adore dogs so much, and my mom has said that I can get another dog,as long as I get a dog under these characteristics:
1.)under like $300.The cheaper, the better.lol, but of course the dog has to be healthy too.
    2.)Short haired (I have asthma)
    3.)When it grows up,it has to be small.Not medium sized,but SMALL.kinda like a chihuahua,maybe a tiny bit bigger.But dont suggest a chihuahua.My mom doesnt like them at all.lol
4.)They have to be superrr cutee.Just so my parents would want the puppy/dog too.lol :D
    Thanks so much. :]

  • You need a stuffed animal. Dogs are dogs are dogs.

  • Jack russel terriors would be an ideal dog for your description

  • Look here for local shelters in your area, and see what they have...http://petfinder.com

    Cost will be under $300.

  • A toy poodle is great because they don't shed. You just have to get them groomed when their fur gets too long. Don't know if you can get one for less than $300 though. Good luck!

  • I would suggest NO dog!

  • Try going on www.petfinder.com

You could adopt a dog well under 300 dollars. If you were to go to a reputable breeder, you would have to pay at least 800 dollars. So, opt to adopt!

You could try a cavalier king charles spaniel, maltese, shih tzu, or even a mix of a small dog.
Hope this helps and Good Luck!

  • Go to the Humane Society and tell them what you're looking for, they will match you up with the perfect puppy. :)

  • first check www.dogbreedinfo.com at the top they have a link that says find the perfect dog and then the links that brings up for allergies (gives a list of all hypoallergenic dog breeds) and then look at the list there for shedding (gives a list of all the light shedders) compare the 2 lists and you should be able to find a breed on both lists that will stay small and be workable with your asthma.

Then go to petfinder and seach for those breeds and you should be able to find something with one of the shelters or rescues there that fit you best. Thats where we found our puggle pup and are very very happy with our experience with petfinder (just research the rescue and check them out just like they'd check out your references) and we got real lucky in the fact that the rescue only had a $160 adoption fee (with $60 refunded uppon receipt of proof of neuter, which we had planned on adopting already altered or having him neutered anyway)

but a quick note to find mixed breeds (mutts) on petfinder you need to search by one of the breeds in the mix (ie, puggle wouldnt bring up anything but pug does) if you go that route

  • wow little but not hyper, what about a pomerinian? no better yet a miniature pinser or uhhhhh a little pug? hope that helps!

  • a PUG but they have health problems like when there 7 its eith ears, legs , or eye but other wise there awesome i have a pug and its small it looks like its still in it puppy version trust me i cry cuz there soooo cute! :) and just shave em i shaved mine and there hair grows really really reallly sloww trust me

  • Go to a shelter and bring home an adult (Fully Trained) small dog. That would fit all your criteria.

    1. Cheap. 2. You can find one short haired. 3. You'll see the size when it's grown, because it is grown. 4. You can find one that's cute. 5. It's already trained.

  • If you need a cheaper dog, I get the message that you can't afford a dog. If it gets really sick and you have to pay $900 for surgery, can you afford it? If you have asthma, i would prefer to get a hypoallergenic dog, because most dogs with short hair shed a lot and can bother your asthma. I will suggest a few breeds to you, but you have to spend a lot of time researching how to take care of a dog and you have to know the breed very well before getting one.
Shih Tzu, Lhasa Apso and Poodle.
The Shih Tzu, i have one, so i know, but they are very quiet, they are really smart as well, mine isn't the sharpest knife in the drawer, but his cuteness makes up for it. They are a little bit difficult to house train, that is the only flaw with them, you just have to be really consistent, or you can adopt one who is already house trained.
The Lhasa Apso are very cute, just a bit smaller than the SHih Tzu, and they are very smart and obvservant. They remember people really well, and they are just a joy to have.
Poodles, I'm not very familiar with the breed, but I hear they are really smart. So look up these breeds and do some research.
You should also watch the Dog Whisperer, good show, you can learn A LOT!
good luck, i hope every thing goes well :)

  • Do you want it to do your homework for you, too? Ha. Ha.

Anyway, if you get a dog that's under $300, you're either getting it from a pet shop, OR from a back-yard breeder [bad breeders].

My suggestion? Get it from the shelter. They're cheaper. I only hope you can afford medical care, and basic supplies.
