Try the Vampire Chronicles by Anne Rice. It's a bit darker...no, it's A LOT darker than Twilight but it has a lot of messages in it that leave you thinking. But if you still want to go for the plotless chick lit like Twilight (which I read, enjoyed, and now feel neutral about because it was so predictable, yet held my attention and put me in La-La Land for a year), then read the Vampire Kisses series about this goth girl and her vampire boyfriend. looking for some forums::

I personally don't recommend a vampire book for you though because after I read Twilight I was all vampire-crazy and I ended up hating every vampire book because they weren't pale,fast, and cold. Haha! I <3 Edward!! lol But I recommend Maximum Ride. It very interesting.. because its about half bird kids trying to save the world.. I mean come on! Have you ever heard about half-bird kids? haha! it has a bit of romance so you will probably like it.
