hmmm
i wonder if its not a fuel issue.. dose your car have the 2.2L? most do. some things to check.
see if it has spark.. pull off a plug wire and have someone crank it over and observe if it has spark. often i have seen on cavaliers that the ignition module will fail or a crank or cam sensor. all of these items can be found on the back of the motor under the intake manifold. 1992 Chevrolet Cavalier – No Spark to the Spark Plugs:: Mar 9, 2007 The next day again the car would not start, same cranking, but seemed to be getting no gas. I could hear the fuel pump start up when I http://www.myhonestmechanic.com/articles/1992-chevrolet-cavalier_no-spark-to-the-spark-plugs.shtmlHOME |
if you do have spark i would check fuel pressure. perhaps you have a clogged fuel filter and that is what has led you to think its the fuel pump.
i have also seen the ignition switch fail in these cars. dose your theft light come on when you turn the key on? or when cranking?
if all that checks out then it maybe the timing chain has jumped. they are also known to do that to. if you have a compression Gage you could check the compression too. your looking for about 135psi give or take 25psi.
ya id suggest checking the fuel filter too to see if it might be clogged and test out the other fundamental properties that start a car
"What would cause my 98 cavalier to not have power to the fuel pump?"
The fuel pump on the 98 Cavalier is powered up for exactly 2 seconds during cranking. If you are not getting power for that amount of time, then you may have a bad ignition switch located under the dash. Two seconds is enough time for car to start and die.
well its not the fuel pump and im to tired to answer this question or else i would im a diesel mechanic and a automotive tech i would have to say that its your fuel sensor if it doesnt sense fuel the pump will not pump anything, thus causing your problem oh and if its a stick shift ?? then its your clutch happens all the time in chevys its burnt out!
