My engine temp will go all the way to the hottest point after about 10 minutes of driving it. This will stay at the max temp with my warning light coming on for about 1 minute, no more. Your thermostat is sticking and needs changed.
Get a new thermostat. It might not be opening up until it gets real hot and then when it does the coolant starts to flow like normal. It's a real cheap repair if done now. If you wait you might do further damage to your motor. BoaterEd - One engine not up to temperature:: I have new ones sitting in my spare parts box. You need to check your thermostat. It doesn't work good. All the cars have small and big cooling circuits. Small is closed when your engine is cold. Thermostat opens the big one when engine reaches proper working temp. It should open big cooling circuit much earlier, not at max temp. You shouldn't drive your car because you overheat it and that may cause expensive engine damage. Good luck!
Quite sure that you have a thermostat sticking! Better get a new one installed before you warp the head!
Your thermo fan might b shorting out or something or not kicking in early enough.
your thermostat is not working correctly!
Hi, I think MR.J might be on the right track with this problem.Though it could be the thermostat.I would take the car into a shop and have them test the system. You cannot tell from inside the car . Good Luck.
