If you really want to become a competitive fashion stylist, you SHOULD attend fashion school or think about attending fashion school after getting your undergraduate degree. As an alternative, there are some universities (both public and private) that offer degrees in Apparel, Merchandising, Marketing, Style, and Fashion/Textile. Look for schools that offer these programs (especially if you want a school with a diverse student body and really care about the social/cultural atmosphere of a school, which in my opinion, is very important for me).
Along with that, you can DOUBLE-major or minor in an emphasis in Business (Business Management, Business Administration, Business, Entrepreneurship) and get a background with handling money, starting a business, keeping a business afloat, making good business contacts, business legalities, etc. Gone Baby Gone: What Would You Do? there's so many courses to choose from, but since you don't want to go to fashion school i'd suggest something along the lines of business administration or something similar, dpending on what a particular college or university offers. i do suggest however that you do take up fashion courses because the familiarity with terms, concepts and processes relating to fashion should be present in you. but other than that, a business course is fine so you'll know how to handle the ins and outs when you start your company. ;) What Would You Suggest As A College Major? - Find Answers to this :: Feb 5, 2009 I would suggest focusing on getting your core classes out of the way and remaining undeclared for awFind answers to the question, http://www.experienceproject.com/question-answer/What-Would-You-Suggest-As-A-College-Major/1696HOME | What would you do if you were CEO of a major airline? - ABC News:: Feb 10, 2009 So it was not surprising following my somber forecast when someone asked, "What would you do if you were chief executive of a major U.S. http://abcnews.go.com/Travel/story?id=6837541&page=1HOME |
Here is a website to search for more information on the field: http://www.bls.gov/oco and can search 'fashion designers' or whatever other career that piques one's interest.
Please do beware of those private $$ expensive career schools as well as those online, for-profit schools which include penn foster, university of phoenix, capella, kaplan, walden, strayer, devry, everest, sanford brown, ITT tech, stratford career, keiser and others as they are merely out to 'make a profit': http://www.capellauniversitysucks.us

Go for business, with a specialy in entrepreunership (sp?) Also look into something like industrial design - having a good eye for design will help you in general for anything like fashion, interior decorating, product development.
Another thing you should look into is technology. Go look at sites like My Virtual Model - or something like Meez - they used to have something going with Sears where you could try clothes on an avatar of yourself online then pick them up at the store. You could get a great background in college in 3D/computre graphics, either from the art department or the computer science department.
you can do this by majoring in whatever lol
but if you wanna feel like you're going in the right direction, major in business.
