What happened to all the huge employers in the Bread Bakery business .Where have all those commercial Bakeries gone There only seems to beKingsmill/Hovis, Greggs, Roberts of Northwich & Warburtons Bakery left.I'm from the North of England and I can Name a few from the 60/70/80's :
Champion Bakeries Stockport, White Cheif Stockport, Hames Sunblest Bakeries Stockport, Mellings Farnwoth Bolton, Almonds Wythenshawe Rolands Wythenshawe, Craigs Bakers Old trafford, Duncan and Forster Manchester, Robbinsons Bakeries Levenshulme, Mothers Pride Old Trafford, Guests Bakeries Wigan Ideal Bakeries Leigh Lancs, Harveys Gold Seal Bakeries , Sayers Liverpool, Prices Bakeries Manchester, Birchenoughs Macclesfield, Champion Bakeries Stoke on Trent, Weetabix Bakeries Liecester, Moores Luxury Loaf Bakers Salford ,Rathbones Bakeries Wigan, Wittles Bakeries of Littleborough Co-Op Cakebread street Manchester and all the others .These were big employers in the past .Most of these Bakers were established in the early to late 1800'sWhat a shame after all those years trading they have simply gone.We seem to have grown in population and dwindled in our eating habits.
