OK....I am about to move to hopefully New Jersey on Nov. 1. I have a job in Long Island City, NY but don't want to live in New York due to the cost....so I want to know were can one find an apartment somewhere close, affordable and nice. I know everyone in that area uses public transportation so i was wondering if Newark new jersey would be a cheap but nice place to live and commute everyday from!!!!!
You -would hate this commute (and your co-workers will think you are crazy) because you'll likely have to come in to the center of Manhattan everyday if you are using public transportation. It will be long and you'll be paying a double commuting fee - the train from Newark to Manhattan, and then the subway out to LIC. People who live in Newark tend to work in lower Manhattan, if they work in the city at all. Unfortunately, Newark is also known for having a very high crime level and many social ills. Definitely look at different neighborhoods in Queens - Jackson Heights, Astoria, Kew Gardens, Sunnyside, and Long Island City itself, for starters. Good luck!
Harry K is correct. The cost of the commute in time and money will hurt your quality of life. Then add in paying 2 state's income tax and it would be cheaper to find something in Queens. Try Throggs Neck that is a short drive across the Bridge. Where should I live in Silicon Valley? | Ask Metafilter:: Ill be working in Sunnyvale, but Im not sure where to live. The commute from New Jersey to LIC really isn't advisable. I suggest you look for something in Queens. Try Astoria, Sunnyside, Rego Park.
Heed the advice of the other posters. Getting to Long Island City from Jersey would be a pain and Newark is not a city in Jersey that you want to live in!
