The actual Chinatown in Manhattan - around Canal Street (East Side).
i didn't know about the one on Avenue U.
the other Brooklyn Chinatown is on 8th Avenue and the 50's in Sunset Park, just north of the 8th Avenue and 61st Street station of the N train.
they're all safe; the Manhattan one is most touristy. but you might still want to go to the others for a more "real" feel.
I think Chinatown only exists in Manhattan
The one in Brooklyn is on Avenue U between Ocean Avenue and Coney Island Avenue. Not much to do there.
The one in Manhattan is a much better place to do business and to find better deals.
Not sure which one would be safest because Chinese people are very honest and kind people.
