In Australia, Southern.
The Orionids are coming this October on the night of the 20th and 21rst. This meteor shower is caused by Halley's Comet and does have a decent number of bright meteors which appear to come from Orion's club at a rate of about 20 per hour. They are fast and they will certainly be visible from Australia because Orion is visible from all over the globe. After that, the Leonids will peak next on the night of November 17-18. This shower has gone back to it's fairly weak state, but because of the clumpy nature of the debris left behind by Comet Swift-Tuttle, it is possible you may see a surge in activity lasting for minutes or hours.
I presume you mean "next" meteor shower. dustbury.com ยป Screaming Memes:: Slept under the stars; Played in a band; Visited Hawaii; Watched a meteor shower ; Given more than you can afford to charity; Been to Disneyland [I assume http://www.dustbury.com/archives/category/screaming-memesHOME |
The next major shower is the Geminids in December, but its radiant may be too far north to have much effect in the Southern Hemisphere. It also will be lagued by a nearly Full Moon. There are lots of minor showers taking place all the time, but I've never been convinced that these are worth staying up for. You'd do almost as well watching past midnight any night.
Honestly, I'm not sure which one of these would benefit you the best but here is a website with dates and locations of Major Astronomical Events for 2008.
