I am an atheist and I don't like to be judged. I don't like society's laws to be based on a belief system that strikes me as similar to that of a fairy tale.
Not against Christianity or any other sort of organized religion. However, attempting to cram religious beliefs down my throat will probably stir something up inside me.

I am an Atheist also.
Being an Athiest and being the opposite of the general statement you've made about Athiests proves that you are just as bad as the Athiests and Christians that generalize society. Religion is more than a set of rules. If it wasn't, you wouldn't be an Athiest. Religion is the belief in a Higher and Greater Being or Lack Thereof. You're not ignorant, but you are misguided.
You'll probably find, when you talk to other atheists, that they are not 'against' Christianity. Most atheists have a great respect for mono- and polytheistic beliefs and their adherants. It is usually the Christian need to 'save' everyone's soul and, in doing so, the world, that irritate atheists. For most Christians the Bible is, essentlialy, the God-issued rulebook for the game of life.

I think religion is supposed to be a ground rule as to have respect for others, but most of the religious people here missed the boat in that one.
I'm an athiest and I'm not against religious people. I agree with you. What I don't understand is that sometimes some religious people have to tell non-religious people they're going to hell if they don't believe in god. That's just a load of crap.
When someone truly confirms what is false in their mind, they cannot turn it back and get a good belief system.
Don't think that some prophets actually had to change their whole belief system? Read Ezekiel who ate the scroll and John in Revelation who ate the little book.

When it comes down to it , it is all about fearing the unknown. If we knew what happened after we died, everyone would believe the same way.
You are truly a great person by your question and comments. I have morals regardless of religion period. There are bad and evil people who label themselves behind religion just like an atheist that are really evil people who label themselves an atheist or whatever floats the boat! I respect others if they respect mines! I don't go around converting anyone unless they ask me about my beliefs. I wish people wouldn't get paranoid because of Who I'm am and what my beliefs to think I want them to join!

I guess athiests want more people on their side so they make fun of us and they say that their way makes more sense. I don't agree. Evolution also is not that great, if you look at the facts, it's still not been proven.
Science tells you how the world works. Religion (myth) tells you why it works as it does.
If you ask me, both are necessary. Myth plays a vital role in society.
First of all, religious people are not the only ones with morals. That's a myth perpetuated by that portion of religious people who like feeling superior to nontheists. The vast majority of us consider it of the highest importance to try to be good people: to contribute to our communities; be good friends, parents, and neighbors; and treat our fellow human beings with the respect they deserve.
Second, it isn't the "Love thy neighbor" aspects of religion that most nontheists object to. It's the condemning of anyone who doesn't blindly believe whatever we're told to believe just because we're told it's God's will. It's the refusal to acknowledge that "it is because the Bible says it is" is not a good enough reason; in fact, it's no reason at all.
I respect those Christians and other religious people who have enough presence of mind to remember that their way is not the only way. Some even have the courage to admit that their way isn't perfect and are open to reasonable, fair ways of making it better.
So I take it you are an Athiest, you may have a point about a set of rules pertains to religions. However everyone lives their lifes with their own belifes, which later they end up changing religions anyway. Do you believe in anything? usually athiest at least believe in some sort of creator. I say live and let live. Religion is not a main reason to respect one another, Have you tried attending service? Did you grow up in a religiouse home? it sounds to me that you have quite a bit to discover about yourself. I say treat others as you would like to get treated, respect others how you would like to get respected. Perhaps an all might exists or not, I guess we will not find out till after were are gone. I am not necessary an Atheist but I think the Christians are having a knee jerk reaction to some fun questions such as the ones I post here. In stead of getting upset why don't they just have fun with it. Oh and by the way I also posted a fun question to the pagans too.
