According to the good folks at apple, the die-cast all alluminum frame which gives it great rigidity at min. size and weight. On that point I agree as the process does cost more. It is also one of the greenest laptops around being 100% recycleable. Is it worth that much more? That becomes a subjective choice you have to make. Research, reasearch, reasearch. Then decide. there's still a $999 one, the "macbook white". the reason it went up is probably because of all the new stuff in it, like the fully glass screen, the glass touchpad, and also, nvidia graphics cards prob cost more.
cuz mac's SUCK!!! It's not worth the extra money to spend. Get Windows instead.
You pay the premium for the ability to run OS X. For those of us that refuse to put up with Windows, it's worth every extra penny.

Are you really that surprised? Macs are ALWAYS terribly overpriced. I would not consider it "worth it" to purchase one. Get a PC instead.

i watched the vid about the new macbooks on the apple website, and they said that all the stuff they put into it was suposed to cost 1999, as much as the macbook pro, but theyre selling it only for 1299
