personally, i think you're protesting too much. if you really didn't believe, you wouldn't have to run around putting other people down for their beliefs and constantly reminding us that you don't believe.

Let's assume you go to the Books and Author's section. Someone asks about a book you heavily disagreed with, and you told them so. That's the same situation atheists are in.

One does not need to believe in god to input thoughtfully to a religious question. One does not need to believe in god to ask a religious question.
One does not need to believe in cooking to ask or answer a question about cooking.
As atheists represent a point of view about religion, they have every right to represent it here. This is not a restricted forum for only god-believers.
The difference is, atheists tend to know a lot more about religion, than the religious. Many atheists can be religious scholars. It's called 'opeing your mind'. I'm not a computer technician, that doesn't mean I don't have the ability to download photoshop.

It is my purpose here to teach those who are interested in learning, and specifically to teach how to think and the importance of doing so. Once one has mastered this, it is no longer necessary to believe in any sort of religion -- it is obvious that all are spurious. For details, see:

You're only the millionth person to ask this question. I'm not an atheist, but I see no reason they should NOT be here. They have every right to question religion and to make people accountable for some of the drivel they write here. And you're typical, making the assumption that atheists and the rest of us non-Christians know nothing about your religion. Most of us know it all too well, which is why we rejected it. My husband is a former Christian minister who can quote chapter and verse and knows Christian history better than most Christians.

I may be a deist, but I have just as much general knowledge about some religions as the next person.
I don't deliberately go to genuine questions about god and say stuff like 'he's imaginary' (or 'he doesn't care' in my case) because that's not an answer. I answer them in the context of what they are asking...doesn't mean that *I* have to believe it.

This is a place to discuss religious and spiritual things, not a little hang out for Christians. Atheist have all the right in the world to rebuff stupid out-dated beliefs that affect our whole lives. Why don't you ignorant Christians get off the mesage board and start doing some reading of books that arn't the Bible.
You may know nothing about cooking, than don't go to the cooking section. Athiests know a lot about religion. Just because they don't believe in it doesn't mean they don't know about it.

What is your problem with free speech? I know it's very hard for you to believe, but people actually have the right to say what they think.
I obviously can't answer for every atheist, but as for me - the reason I hang around here is because it allows me to develop my arguments against religion and make them sound more convincing. In other words, to enhance my rhetorical skills so that when I walk up to a stranger who believes in God, I can stun him immediately with all the reasons for why he shouldn't.
As an added bonus, it's also very fun to point out how silly the superstitious can be. Let me describe to you how it feels: it's like watching a man hit his head against a wall and then stop every few minutes to scratch his head and wonder why it hurts. Then that man goes up to you and starts asking why his head hurts, why his life is so horrible, why it is that bad things like walls happen to good people, etc... you tell the man that hitting walls is bad for him, but he just gets mad at you, tells you to go to hell, and returns to banging his head.
Next, the answer "God is fake" would have been VERY helpful to me had I been on these forums just a few years ago. I'd like to think that I'm helping someone in turn find the words that are never spoken in everyday conversation.
Also, this is the only medium in which we atheists can actually exercise our free speech and give our views on religion (without being constantly censored by theists in every other media form). But of course I can see that you are very hard at work trying to eliminate even this small place for us to inhabit.
Lastly, I'd advise you to look in the mirror at who is REALLY "protesting too much". I've never seen a SINGLE atheist protest, "Oh why do I have to share this public place with theists?" It just shows the mark of an immature mind to try and kick out people who disagree with you.
I'll leave you with this little question to ponder: You are a theist and you obviously 'see' God's handiwork all around you every day. If you have so much faith, why do we atheists bother you? If you are truly so convinced that god exists, why are you disturbed by our presence?
