Come On, People:: While Come On, People acknowledges the thick complexity of issues that lay say they want black Americans to take ownership of devising solutions. http://www.thenation.com/doc/20071126/alexanderHOME | I've heard so many black people who want to classify mixed people as their own yet mixed people want nothing to do with us. For example Obama was considered black by 66% of blacks

Depends what you think of as black. To me a black person is someone dark skinned, so I am black. Obama does want something to do with blacks and calls himself black too though if he called himself mixed there would equally be nothing wrong with that. The problem would be if a person actually wants to identify as mixed but is 'labelled' black.
When you meet someone that is mixed race thats what you see. Maybe its from the one drop rule. Any black and you are black.
No white person who saw a biracial person would say they were white..right? First they are more careful to not classify people. Whereas in the black community it seems like we like to classify and claim people as "our own"
I think if a mixed person does not want to deal with the black community, thats a form of denial and they should seek counseling. They could have identity issues that need to be resolved.
you tell them, no one wants to be associated with them
Because race is more than a persons biological make-up. Race is about identity. Bob Marely was bi-racial (black mother, white father) but he identified more with the black race...although he was bi-racial we can 'claim' he's black because in this society that is the way he was percieved and his culture sets him apart.
To conclude, most black people are mixed, even the darkest of people may have a mixed background....the point is that its about identity, not a persons biological make-up.
not true it depend on who the person want to be I noticed a mixed person seems to be more like the family that raised them
Not really...where do you get this info from..wikipedia is a bad source
I completely agree with you, Warrior Sage.
In Hong Kong, we call people of chinese/american, chnese/brit, chinese/australian etc etc etc biracial people, we don't call them chinese or american or brit independently.
We should respect both sides of the ancestors that the biracial people have.
I hate people using the words " sell-out", " self-hate" to force the biracial people to give up one side of their ancestors. If we just fully accept them as biracial, they would never have a chance to sell-out either side of their ancestors.
Obama says he is Black no one forced him
Most Mix race people I know are in the Black crowd but maybe what your talking about is a Canadian thing gementos

Both are the same race
When someone mixed does something good, then black people are accused of claiming them. Then when a mixed person does something stupid, guess what race they belong to... Just let Tiger Woods bust a cap once... and he's automatically gone from multiracial to the n-word.
We only claim the black people that identify as being black (Halle Berry and Barack Obama).
I don't know I wish people would stop doing that! Mixed people are a race of their own leave them alone
Its all about what you look like. Obama looks black, so it wouldn't be a stretch to say he's black.
I on that note agree with him, and to me he's black.
