There could be many things causing your issue from a plugged fuel filter to something more serious impending. Do you have any engine warning lights on?

I would start with the easy and not terribly expensive stuff. Replace the fuel filter. What condition is the air filter in? If it needs it, replace it. An engine that isn't getting enough air can't produce the correct air to fuel ratio and is not only lacking power but using more fuel than necessary.

Check your spark plugs. Does the vehicle need a "tune up"? Plugs, points (if your car has them), possibly new plug wires, check the distributor cap.

Get a can/bottle of GOOD fuel additive that cleans things out. I'm not talking the STP stuff from Wal-Mart. Some auto supply stores carry better ones and most dealers will have them in their parts department. These clean the fuel injection system, some deal with water in the fuel (which happens naturally in some climates) and is usually worth giving it a shot.

Hopefully, this will get your buggy running as it should. On top of that, it will be a more energy efficient car and that certainly doesn't hurt!

And for safety's sake, please make sure your tires are properly inflated and in good condition too! Check your tires at least once a month for proper inflation.

    Good Luck!
