Either he/she is attracted to the hardwood floors by the chemicals that you use such as Frebreeze, (which is bad for pets to lick) or he/she is scratching their tongue due to bacteria or something. I would recommend stop using harsh chemicals (if you are) on the hardwood floors and carpet and see if he/she stops. If not I would take your dog to the vet and get the situation looked at. Maybe it is salty, or you dropped food there. Of course, some dogs are OCD. Cesar Milan had to work with a rock loving dog, a spinning dog, and a bunch of other wierd dog problems. Maybe you should call him, or read his books, or watch his show, or buy you dog a bone.
Maybe there are crumbs or drips or even a feet smell on the floor. As long as he isn't chewing it, I wouldn't worry about it.
But you can always just sharply say NO when he does it and redirect his behavior.
You just have a very special dog with his own quirky ways. Love your dog and enjoy that he is unique.
Believe me, this is not a big deal in the dog world.
So long as you don't use harsh chemicals on the floors it won't cause him any harm. If you do, switch to eco friendly products.

I would make sure the chemicals I was using to clean my house were not toxic to him so that he doesn't get hurt with his odd habit. A steam cleaner would be safe.
I have NO idea.. But my dog does it too. Only we have tile and he's constantly licking the tiles and the grout (must be salty or something), but he does it to the carpet sometimes too.. It drives me mad..
