You might have TMJ - see a dentist.
My jaw does that as well. It has happened from years of grinding and clenching me teeth. I went to the dentist and had a mouthguard made and it has helped.
Is the cracking on one side, or both?

If you can avoid the cracking, try to. (Smaller bites, don't chew too much gum).
Because of my jaw, I now clench my teeth- so I wear a night guard at night. That should hopefully allow me to still use my jaw later in life... I hope. You should have your tempormandibular joint checked out by a Dentist. Cracking or grinding sound from the joint may cause you problems as you get older. This problem is often fixed by changing your bite and opening it up a bit via crowns.
My jaw crack when ever i chew gum or eat food. Its really annoying if you ask me. I don't think that it is something you should worry about. My jaw has been doing this for almost a year and my jaw is still fine. I don't think there is anything for you to worry about
