Public schools offer nothing but distractions from their studies. Home schooling is the best option to make sure your children are given the best educational opportunity without being distracted by needless things. School is not meant to be a place for socializing! Why don't more people see this?
I agree with you. It doesn't take a freaking Master's degree to teach a child the basics. Sheesh.
no I'm not with you on this my son Alex loves people ... he has D's and I'm one that thinks that if he is to fit in to the normal population then he needs to make friends and educate other who would other wise treat him different .. its took years to get the right for children like mine to got to school ... the only way to change peoples mine is to live with them ..
For many parents, this isn't an option. We have to work full-time to keep a roof over our kids heads and food on their table.
They don't have the time, the money or the knowledge...besides some kids prefer public schools...nobody likes being isolated with just their parents all day..can cause depression
I homeschool but I do not agree with your statements. Homeschooling is not the answer for everyone. Some have to work, some don't want to and some cannot for other reasons.
There is nothing in this world that says that one way of schooling is better then another.
For those that say homeschoolers don't socialize, what exactly do you think we do? Lock our kids in the basement all day? wow
My kids are exposed to many people of different ages all day. They have many friends and when it comes time for supper I'm usually trying to find them somwhere in the neighbourhood as they are out playing.
No I don't know everything but there are so many resources available that I don't have to know it all. A teaching degree is not necessary. Trust me.
I can teach my kids to walk and talk and I can certainly teach them to add 1+1.
1 Mother & Expert Mom = same crazy *****
because then your kids grow up to be weird unsociable people....I'm sure not all of the time but from what I see. They NEED interaction with other kids and they deserve to go to school dances, prom, football games...and all that.
Wow could this be Expert Mom?? Sounds like it!!
Maybe people think their children should go to a place to study instead of doing it in their own home. Like praying at home is one thing, but going to church is somewhere you meet together and worship. Understand? Nothing wrong with it and this is not a question its a rant.
It's not convenient for the majority of parents who actually have to go to work to earn an income!
Home-schooling is all right as long as the parent is actually able to teach. Some are not patient enough or (sorry) smart enough. And I do believe it's lonely for the kid/s.
I was about to answer this seriously, then realized you are the former expert mom, so now I'm not wasting my breath.
I am not a teacher, why should I teach my children when there is someone more qualified to do so. Isn't that what a teaching degree is for? I do not have a teaching degree. I actually feel that it is more of a distraction to be home. Do you feel the same way about private schools?
Learning to interact with others - socializing - is part of learning. Adults are not isolated in their home lives, or in their jobs. They have to learn how to get along with and work with other people. Socialization isn't a distraction, it's part of life.
I agree that there are benefits to home schooling, for some children and a very few parents. However, I think the vast majority of parents do not have the skills or knowledge necessary to provide a comprehensive education.
um.......let me see why
maybe b/c i go to the best public high school in the state
maybe b/c we offer over 100 different classes
maybe b/c we offer tons of technology
maybe b/c some parents have to work 2 jobs and provide food
some classes offered at school, aren't offered at home.
maybe b/c some people can't teach certain subjects. my mom can't even do 5th grade math.
maybe b/c they like to be in clubs. my school has over 30 clubs.
maybe b/c they like to take part in dances, fund raisers, pep rallies, etc. you can have fun at school.
school makes you independent
you know its also really cool when you meet many teachers they will change your life, and you will never forget them. it's a great bonding and socializing experience. there's nothing wrong with socializing. you learn by socializing. its nice to see someone(a teacher) who can make your day better.
not everyone has the opportunity to do this but not only that kids need socializiation and to be able to thrive in the world and they cannot do that if we keep them sheltered their entire lives.what is right for you may not be for others.
The way I see it, ONE parent cannot possibly have all the knowledge, education, and experience that multiple teachers in the school system have! I mean really, how many homeschooling parents have college degrees? Have taught for years? Have years of in-field experience? Maybe a few, but I bet most common-day parents don't. I would prefer my kids to learn from professional teachers. Sure I have a degree in Psychology - but am I an expert in English, Math, Science, etc? No! Do you know what I mean?
because it costs more.
I agree with Southern Mommy, you sound an awful lot like "expert mom".
And if I don't have a teaching degree, then I'm leaving the teaching to the ones who DO have that degree. Do you have a BA in teaching? How would the people who do have teaching degrees make a living if everyone home schooled? School IS a place to socialize but there has to be a balance between socializing and learning. May be YOU should educate yourself on THAT.
Extracurricular activities are important as well. How do you think people find their talents and hobbies?
Because in life it's not just what you know, but who you know. How do you think Bush became President? Social skills are important. Plus why not let a kid enjoy his childhood? School is fun!
