What's the difference between the questionable birth registration Obama's people apparently produced a copy of and an official birth certificate? Why doesn't he have one?

Sorry, when I first read this question, I naturally thought you were talking about John McCain.
There is an official birth certificate available for Sen. Obama. He is a natural born citizen of the United States in any way that the term could possibly be interpreted. He was born in Honolulu, Hawaii in 1961 - Hawaii had been a state since 1959. I don't know the other documents you're referring to, though "Soetoro" was the name of his mother's second husband. Whether or not he was given or used his step-father's surname, or whether any purported change was legal or merely practical, I don't know. But clearly - as is the case with children in identical situations today - young "Barry" had nothing to do with it: he was 6 years old when his family moved to Indonesia. Whether such young children who are American citizens are granted temporary dual citizenship in Indonesia if their step-father is a citizen, I don't know. A lot of under-18s with (step)parents of two nationalities have temporary dual citizenship. I guess you'd have to produce some kind of documentation for the claims you're making, but whether they're true or not, they woud have no bearing on his eligibility to serve as president: Sen. Obama is without question a "natural born citizen" of the United States.

Whether or not John McCain is a "natural born citizen" is a bit more difficult. McCain was not born in the United States. He was born in 1936 in the Panama Canal Zone (though some have suggested that he was actually born in Panama itself, since the hospital in which he would have been born was not built until 1941). At the time, the Panama Canal Zone was a territory controlled by the United States. In 1953 the US Congress granted citizenship to those born in the Canal Zone with at least one parent who is a US citizen. The McCain family had already moved to Virginia in 1951, though whether McCain was "naturalized" at some point is not clear (he has refused to produce any sort of birth certificate, birth record, or documentation). That Sen. McCain is a US citizen is without question. That he was born to American parents is also without question. There also doesn't seem to be any reason to question whether Sen. McCain has been an American citizen since his birth.
The problem is that the constitutional requirement that the US President be a "natural born citizen" has never been legally defined. Until it is, it will be impossible to say whether Sen. McCain meets the criteria.
It's the million dollar question at the moment. As easy as it is now to get information you would think within hours Obama could get whatever he needs to provide a birth certificate, but this is just another cover up.

There is no birth certificate for the same reasons his college transcripts are not available. They are hiding something and the mainstream media doesn't want you to find out the truth. The MSM is so deep in the tank for Obama it's pathetic.
Hopefully there will be answers. But I doubt it, if it hasn't been addressed by now, it's likely not ever to be.
