  • We shouldn't. What we really should do is replant five trees in place of the trees we chop down. Also, hemp should be legalized. Did you know you can make seven times the amount of paper from one acre of hemp than you could one acre of trees?

  • Brazils greatest natural resource is the amazon rainforest. It is the worlds largest rainforest area, yet it also has the highest rate of deforestation. Each year the land deforested in the Amazon rain forest is in equal size to ohio. When we cut down trees its mainly to encourage mining, logging, and farming. But instead we choose to burn down trees witch has an effect on the rest of the world. When the trees burn carbon dioxide is released into the air, producing acid rain. Acid rain effects plants and how they grow.Cutting down trees takes a main role in Brazil. The backbone of Brazil is its producing of food products. Most of the deforestation that takes place is to increase the abundance of crops. With deforestation taking place topsoil is also taking place. The soil is eroding and washing away.

  • It can make houses, paper, and also business like lumber but when we cut down trees we should replace it as we cut it.

  • we shouldn't cut down trees since they are the major producers of Oxygen..

the less trees we have, the more carbon dioxide will build up in an area. even though trees are "renewable resources" it takes years for a tree to actually grow to its normal height.

  • From a conservation and management perspective, we have to cut down trees to thin brush and help control forest fires. Areas allowed to grow uncontrolled after being clear-cut will grow back to dense and with too much underbrush, all causing very hot, rapidly moving forest fires which can destroy property and permanently change the habitat type. However, if the forest has been allowed to return to a near old-growth form through normal succession, or actually IS old-growth, such as in the tropics or boreal forests, it should not be cut since it is already adapted to correctly cope with natural occurrences such as fire. These forests contain massive amounts of biodiversity which needs to be preserved. We should work to protect it and grow trees for harvest in lands we've already cleared.

  • Thin out the forest. When it is done responsibly, it doesn't harm the environment. When it is done with no consideration, and no planning for reforestation, then we will have to suffer the consequences.
    EDIT:
Perhaps the nations of the world should pay the Amazon countries to protect their rain forests. Since we are all benefitting from the oxygen supplied by them.

  • As they age, trees actually produce less oxygen then they do when they were young, according to a recent study.

So actually, it would make sense to cut down larger trees, and plant new ones.

  • Build houses, make paper with.
Trees are a crop no different than corn, just larger.

  • In the US right today - we have more trees now than 100 years ago! Trees are a renewable resource!

When the lumber/logging industry harvests trees for commercial use they ALSO build roads, clean up brush, sometimes add water lines to this logging area. They also re-plant. When lightening strikes start fires fire trucks and fire fighters can quickly and easily get to the fire areas using those roads.

Forests where environmental protection has prevented selective logging often burn to the ground - killing millions of animals and often destroying homes. Most of the fires you see burning out of control in America are often started in these "environmentally controlled ares" where logging was prevented! Once a fire is out of control it consumes everything in it's path until it reaches a rocky area, a large river or it rains heavily.

Now, if you mean should you cut down a tree in your own yard - that is up to you! If I had a tree that was in danger of falling on my house I would cut it down! I am sick of raking leaves every fall anyway!
