Somehow I don't see this as major point....
Myself, I'm more interested in the content pages, the content panels, getting the trackbacks/pingbacks to work (I had to disable them on my forums, and I hadn't had the time to debug what the problem is), and even the blog roll.
But... with no information.... I don't know if I should code them myself or wait. Where's that improved customer communication? :)
Adding blog posts to the "forum" search would be a biggie for me. Most people don't make it into the blogs because they don't see a "new post". - February 2005 Search Engines News:: Jeremy Zawodny writes about Russell Beattie whos going to become a full-time Yahoo soon. I would see the search becoming a general search (tags as well) that you can plug everything (forums, blogs, pictures, and whatever product you have) into.
What if we want to only have users user categories we set? It's our site, our rules. We should be able to decide what they can and can't do. While I get what you're saying, other times I can see why some would only want to have admin-definable categories (or restrict what kind of content is available), or perhaps even just default categories (something to help new users).
This is a BLOG! you can't enforce something like categories to others' blogs.
If you are the site owner and want to keep the blog postings focused on specific topic categories you sure as heck should be able to enforce it. If not 'enforce' it, atleast give users predefined categories to choose from and accept suggestions for other category names.
For example, there's apparently a blog 1.1.0 Beta 1 already being developed (see this (http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/project.php?issueid=23550)), it looks like something is cookie in the Jelsoft kitchen. Yeah, That's been in the tracker for a while now, hopefully we'll get some communication on it fairly soon.
You know I was thinking,
About 4 months ago there was a great preview thread (http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?t=249460) in the Annoucementions section of the site that previews 3.7 features. It would be fantastic if we got a 1.1 thread, or other preview thread for the next version of Vbulletin Blog.

Why not?
I hope to heck that they allow administrators to predefine default categories for bloggers to select from. This is a major point that needs to be added asap.
I'm hoping we see a new version of the blog very soon.
I'm hoping we see a new version of the blog very soon.
I think we can at least all agree on that.
Yes, they do have multiple branches too. ;) So it could be 1.1 or 1.0.x release, but the point was that either way a new update (in this case, referring to a feature set I believe) will hopefully be soon if 1.1 beta is already being worked on.

Well, depends on "soon," but I'd guess it wouldn't be that long after. For example, there's apparently a blog 1.1.0 Beta 1 already being developed (see this (http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/project.php?issueid=23550)), it looks like something is cookie in the Jelsoft kitchen. :)
If you're talking a maintenance release, well then probably "soon" too. :p
Blog likes a mini personal site, you can't push someone to write topics you choose for him.
S/He gets to be free. free to choose.

Again, I understand where you're coming from, but what same argument can be applied to anything else on the forum. An example: Why can't we talk about warez? Your argument is that users should have freedom to write what they want and yet you draw limits on certain things.
What's wrong with applying that same logic to blogs? It's not like if such a feature were added, you have to use it and only that feature for your blogs without letting the choose their own topics. People have different forums, different ways of running their site. Don't forget to factor in international laws where some content has to be moderated or stick to a certain genre or else the administrator/users could get into legal issues.
It's just a simple feature request to further suit some administrator's wants or needs for their site. You may not agree with it, but then again it's not your site. I'm not saying I myself would do it (I'll say again I do get your stance on the topic), but I can see where others would want to use or have such an option.

Oh really? Take a real close look at this setup: http://blogs.ign.com/. Of particular interest is the R/H column.

Statement in bug fixing about maintenance release:
It will be in 1.0.5 but that won't be released any time soon.

That would be a great idea... it'd be nice to see that for Project Tools as well.

You mean the one Kier mentioned? That was after 3.7 goes gold I believe. ;)

OK, friendly forums are most likely to succeed. Admins aren't governments.
Admins are founders or co-moderators.
When you give the freedom to your user to write whatever he wants, he will be comfortable, and will post more frequently.
The Syrian Medical Society is a medical community mainly, but we don't enforce users to write medical blogs. actually, you won't see any medical post in the blogs. they are pretty active, I think.
In the forum itself, we encourage users to write medical topics, but we don't enforce them.
This is, of course, not absolute

AGREED!
In my forums, political topics are not allowed, because this may not be in best interest for me or for users.
I love the freedom and dream to live it.
Anyway, there is a difference between "you're free to speak about anything except the illegal activities" and "you're allowed to speak about certain topics only".
Also there are a huge difference between forums and blogs. actually, you own the forums and control them. but you don't own the blogs, you just host them.
Of course, when I tell an admin "you can't (or not advised to) do that", I don't mean "Hey, devs, please don't add such a feature".
The question is "why blogging sites (like blogger.com) don't determine categories beforehand?" because it seems to be the right thing to go with.
I'm not arguing, just expressing thoughts.
Best regards
No clue. Supposedly there will be an sometime update after 3.7. Supposedly communication is supposed to improve after 3.7. Honestly I expected this software to have a ramped up development cycle, given the lack of features. But there's been no real communication on the topic.
