Latest news is that Denes Rosa has signed a new 3 year contract. Although Wolves had an option to sign him at the end of the season, because we didn't manage promotion we had to renegotiate the offer (less money). This is good news.

Frankowski hasn't made the Poland squad for the World Cup. He's gutted about it and feels betrayed by the Polish coach.

Kennedy and Cameron have been offered new deals but probably not for the large sums that they were preiously on. Expect both to move elsewhere (Cameron has rejected his offer and is expected to go to Coventry).

Ndah has retired (think I mentioned that elsewhere).

Postma, Anderton, Ganea and Ross have all been released.

Ince is still in negotiations as far as I'm aware.

Silas (remember him?) is likely to be released - we have an option to extend his contract (we did that last year just so we could try and cash in on him, although we obviously didn't), but that option is unlikely to be taken up. Ironically, he's the type of player that would probably suit Hoddle's kind of game.

One thing is for sure, it will be a very different team next season.

  • the wolves are also giving a trial to defender jamie clapman...he may help the club if he impresses.

Aye, and we've signed Gary Breen too. Not a great signing, but with the current squad, it's better than nothing.

Leon Clarke has picked up some sort of injury (to his ankle I think) and is likely to be out for a while. Naylor's injured too, as is Finkler, the Brazilian trialist who we've kept on for a while longer.

Big news of the day is that Mick McCarthy has taken over as manager. I'm not exactly thrilled, but at least it wasn't Megson.

  • The transfer of Seol to Reading is now complete. Kennedy has followed him out of the door by signing for Crystal Palace on a free.

Youth team player Chris Cornes has been banned for 6 months, having been tested positive for cocaine in a random drugs test. The club has disciplined him but have not terminated his contract. His ban is back dated to April when Wolves suspended him following the initial test results.

We've got two young (20 & 21 years old) Brazilian midfielders on trial. Both caught the eye during the training camp in Spain. One of them scored twice in our preseason friendly against Hednesford (we won 4:0).

  • What happened to Kenny Miller?

So with Miller, Cameron, and Ganea gone, thats three of yalls top four goal scorers from last year. Could be rough times next year.

  • I Know Its Great That Rosa As Signed A New 3 Year Contract For Both Fans And The Club But One Player Isn't Going To Make The Team Better Next Season,so Glenn Hoddle Needs To Buck His Ideas Up For Next Season.

True, but of all the out of contract players, I think he was the one that we REALLY needed to keep hold of (oh, Miller too, but that wasn't going to happen). Hopefully having released so many players, we'll be able to sign a few decent, hungry players to spur us on next season. We must be saving a small fortune on wages having got shot of Anderton. Cameron and Kennedy are high earners and are likely to be leaving. I don't know if we've been paying Silas' wages but we won't have to worry about that anymore.

Personally I don't think the situation os quite as bad as some people are making out. It certainly isn't ideal, but we've still got a decent nucleus of players which, if we can add to with some shrewd signings, could be good enough to get us into the play-offs. Hell, I don't think Reading's squad was particularly good, but it goes to show what a settled, well organised side can do - record points and all that.

Mikkel Bischoff, who has expressed an interest in returning to Wolves, but on a permanent basis (good replacement for Lescott, should we sell him, or even better to play alongside him).

  • Celtic want Lee Naylor. We offered him a new contract so basically it's up to Naylor if he wants to move or not.

  • Also been linked to Stephen Pearson from Celtic. Thought it was like a done deal to Derby though?

  • the wolves are also giving a trial to defender jamie clapman...he may help the club if he impresses.

  • Overall I think we did alright in the close season. We signed a forward who is capable of replacing Miller in Bothroyd. Also if he fulfills the enormous potential he has then we have a forward capable of setting this league on fire and a player who could score 10+ goals in the EPL. Breen and Clapham have experience at the very highest level of club football and Mccarthy is not as bad a manager as people think he is. We can realistically challenge for promotion and move on from there.

  • Hello Folks! Hope you are all well. Seems we are both stuck with our Hapless Management for another season!

  • Also been linked to Stephen Pearson from Celtic. Thought it was like a done deal to Derby though?

We were linked with him a few weeks back. I imagine he'll go to Derby though - they've been spending quite a bit of cash recently.

    :)

  • I think its going to be a tough year for the wolves!!!

  • I think we could at least make a push for Promotion this term. Probably won't make the playoffs, but top half is achieveable. Remember Sunderland had a rubbish lot in the Championship and Mccarthy lead them to glory and by a fair margain as well. He's a good manager he just didnt have anywhere near the funds that a Premiership team needs last season. Although I will say he could of spent his little bit of money wiser(AKA not spedning 1.8M on Jon Stead).

Anyway kindof new to Wolves been a casual follower since the United win in 2004. So I really haven't a clue about how the Championship works seems to work in some strange ways though thats for sure.

  • Although we've lost Miller and Ganea, we've still got Cort and Frankowski. If played to their strengths, those two should thrive in this division. Rosa is a very similar player to Cameron, and is younger and fitter. I think the main problem will be our defence - we've sold Lescott but not replaced him. We've also got a very small squad now, so if we pick up many injuries, we'll really struggle.

Maybe Im way off base on this but isnt finding good defenders probably the easiest thing to look for? I guess my thinking is that to be a good defender, a lot of it is smarts and positioning. Its not necessarily being a great athlete or ball striker. While in comparison Id imagine finding good strikers fairly difficult.

  • Hello Folks! Hope you are all well. Seems we are both stuck with our Hapless Management for another season!

Yeah, but we'll be ok. We've got rid of loads of players and not signed anyone new. We're bound to do better next season.

We've just sold our biggest asset (Lescott) for just £2 million up front, which will no doubt go towards our costs and not be reinvested in a replacement. In theory we'll get £5 million for him in total, but it isn't much use in dribs and drabs. Man, we're going to be the Championship equivalent of Villa ;).

Still, at least we've got plenty of derby games this year, although we'll probably lose them all. I just hope our new emphasis on youth players pays some dividends in the future.

Are you going to the Wolves V Villa friendly at the Mol? You ought to - it'll the the one game this year that you're guaranteed a win.

  • What happened to Kenny Miller?

So with Miller, Cameron, and Ganea gone, thats three of yalls top four goal scorers from last year. Could be rough times next year.

Miller's contract ran out and he signed for Celtic. Ganea was released and Cameron offered just a one year deal on reduced terms. The club are blaming the lack of money due to the end of the parachute payments from our time in the Premiership. However, we were never this badly off financially before we ever got the Premiership money. The problem is that sir Jack Hayward's patience has run out and he is unwilling to bankroll the club, hence our spending has fallen right off.

Although we've lost Miller and Ganea, we've still got Cort and Frankowski. If played to their strengths, those two should thrive in this division. Rosa is a very similar player to Cameron, and is younger and fitter. I think the main problem will be our defence - we've sold Lescott but not replaced him. I'd be surprised to see us challenge for promotion this season. Stranger things have happened, but we're going through a period of change, and if yesterday's performance is anything to go by, it'll be a long hard season. We've still got some players to come back (McNamara, Mark Davies, Rosa and eventually Gyepes), so maybe things will get better.

Bothroyd has looked like a good signing - scored in the last two games, and puts himself about a fair bit. Cort needs to improve on his contribution. Clapham and Breen are not the players that they used to be, but could be key players this season. Henry looks like a decent signing - the only player that we've paid money for since McCarthy took over.

  • We've agreed a fee for Karl Henry, a midfielder currently at Stoke. He played during our friendly against Villa and looked ok. He's out of contract but is too young to go on a Bosman. He's also a Wolves fan (from Cannock I think), and it doesn't sound like it'll be hard agreeing terms.

Jay Bothroyd has signed for 3 years.

Jamie Clapham has agreed a 3 year contract.

Gui Finkler (the Brazilian trialist) is now on loan with us for the season.

Craig Davies (a Welsh International striker) should sign on loan for the season shortly.

Alexis Bertin (a French midfielder) and Edrissa Sonko (a Gambian winger) are both on trial.

Mick has been a busy man (don't forget the Breen signing as well). He hasn't been in the job 2 weeks yet!!

I also ought to add that Carl Cort has stated his desire to stay at Wolves, despite Crystal Palace wanting to buy him. It had been assumed that it was a "done deal", with Palace offering a return to London and Cort's brother Leon having signed earlier in the close season. Cort, who is in the last 12 months of his contract, says that he wants to negotiate a contract extension.

Mark Davies has picked up a knee injury and will miss the start of the season. It's not known what the full extent of the injury is yet.

Matt Murray pulled out of the Villa friendly during the warm up.
