I have word 2000 at work and home. When I set out with a doc at home I
put in 1 cat 2 dog 3 rat etc under each other and there is NO indent
and NO jumping the gun putting numbers into your mouth (sml) and
putting the next no in. If you want to go from 3 to 5 no problem. But
the one at work, insists on indenting para, and puts its own nos in,
even when you are finished. You have to ^ShftM to take it back to
margin. Surely then if same prog works one way at office and other at
home, it must be in the setup opts, but for the life of me I have

There is indeed a setting for this.
1. From the Tools Menu, choose AutoCorrect Options.
2. Go to the Autoformat As You Type tab.
3. Uncheck Automatic Numbered Lists (and anything else to want to stop
"helping" you).
4. Click OK.
That should do it for you!

Yes Hammar-GA. It does indeed work, but do you have to change auto
type opts in every doc you do, or does the one change make it so for
every new doc you make. eg You start potato.doc and change the setts
for no indent and no etc. Then you start tomato.dot - do you have to
change setts again, or will it leave out, until you make setts change.
ie Do you change the setts on your blank.doc to exclude the auto, so
that when you start new doc it leaves out auto? Is blank.doc in fact
