my fiance and i had our wedding planned 4 march 28th we were gonna have a backyard wedding ceremony and party we were also including a family unity portion to our wedding ceremony since we both have children from previous relationships we were gonna call them up say something we had written for them and then give them all id bracelets w/ their names. but now w/ all the expenses we have as well as 4 some other reasons we are now planning on getting married in court in nov and keeping the march date 4 a celebration which will include us saying our written vows and doing the family unity thing but w/ out a ceremony or minister just an informal thing. and the rest of it will be like a family celebration party. is this ok? tacky? meaningful? sweet? what???????? any other ideas?????? That sounds great. When you marry somebody with kids, you marry the whole package. I love that you're taking the time to acknowledge that and showing that this commitment is going to include them as well.

One option would be to have a small intimate wedding at yours or someone's home in Nov, giving the children their bracelets & still having the celebration in the spring.
It doesn't have to be expensive to be meaningful.

i am going to do the same type of thing with my fiance's daughter
I love the idea. We got married just the 2 of us (we don't have kids) with a Justice of the Peace and then had a reception a few weeks later with friends, family, cake, and dancing. I liked that it was intimate and we still got to celebrate with everyone
I think it's fine especially since you're already calling it a celebration and not a reception. I would try to find a way to discourage gifts at that event, but it's a very sweet gesture and it will still be meaningful.
