Hi, I recently upgraded my computer and added vista to it.
I can access the shared files from my other computers, but it requires a username ("guest" without a password).
So I was wondering how to make sharing with a username without a password work on xbmc.

If I enter "guest" and no password it wont work.
Is this possible on XBMC?
If not I really cant use it anymore.
In Vista, try going to Control Panel>>Network and Internet>>Network and Sharing Center. Once you're in this window, scroll down to Password Protected Sharing and turn it OFF.

Also make sure Network Discover, File Sharing, and Media Sharing are turned ON as well.
You shouldn't have any problem doing it this way. I'm using x86 (32-bit) Vista Ultimate and have one Xbox that connects to the PC over the LAN and another that connects to the PC via a crossover cable. The connections on both are exceptionally better than when I was using XP.
If this doesn't help, shoot me a Reply and we'll see what we can do from there...
After some experimenting, it seems that I cant connect to my computer using a username and password at all. I made a user called xbox with a password and added it as reader to all the shares.
Still didnt work.
one option is to try xmsp shares.. you will need to install ccxgui in order for it to work.. do a search for vista on the wiki site..

Created user xbox with password xbox, gave sharing to this user, added in the tool smb workgroup the path and works fine for me
yes that is true. but we assume it's svn version we talk about since it isn't mentioned.
that is odd. that normally works just fine. have you set is as default in xbmc? have you tried a direct url instead of browsing?
im using vista ultimate and when i click workgroup in XBMC it freezes the xbox for soem reason. and it works fine with windows XP. any suggestions?
If I recall correctly, the official release version (2.1?) doesn't support some NTLM authentication that vista requires. All of the recent SVN builds work fine.
