Badaboom 1.0 uses Nvidia GPUs to transcode video - The Tech Report:: Oct 23, 2008 Badaboom already has output profiles for the iPhone, iPod, Sony PSP, Apple TV, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3, and Blackman suggested that http://techreport.com/discussions.x/15763HOME | Just A Few Quick Questions,
Since XBMC Is Based On Mplayer Code, Would It Be Possible Using Mencoder Code To Build An Xbox 360 Transcoder Into XBMC?
Transcoding Obviously Requires Quite A Lot Of CPU Legwork So Would The Original Xbox Have Enough Power To Transcode ?
I Dont Know If Anyone Has Suggested A Similar Feature, My Search Turned Up Nothing Directly Relevant.
Many People, Including Myself, Already Have Their Full Collection Of Media On Their Xbox Due To XBMC And Its Great Support For Many Different Codecs.
So In Conclusion If We Cant Put XBMC On The Xbox 360 Then Maybe We Could Transcode Our Media From XBMC To Our 360's.

Nothing Wrong With My Shift Key. Thanks For The Flame :p
I Presume By Cost You Mean CPU Cost, It Doesnt Matter How Much CPU Is Required As Long As Its No More Than 733mhz.
If It Is More Than 733mhz Then It Doesnt Matter As This Would Not Be Possible At All.
I Was Just Probing The Possibility Of Using My Xbox As My Media Server For My Server. Saves People Having To Build A Media Server Just For Transcoding To Xbox 360. I For One Dont Like The Idea Of Transcoding From My Laptop Its A Trade Off Between Watching Southpark/Simpsons/Films Etc And Playing Games. Neologies.net: Why the Xbox 360 is not my media hub:: Jan 16, 2006 If the Xbox 360 can support playing AAC files from my iPod, why is it that the Why not use DirectShow or another mechanism to transcode http://www.neologies.net/2006/01/why-xbox-360-is-not-my-media-hub.htmlHOME |
Transcoding While Playing Games = Major Performance Issues.
Xbox Is A Cheap Computer, Way Cheaper Than Building A Dedicated Media Server Plus It Means 1 Less Device.

PS. Propper Case FTW :p
I don't think that the xbox1 would have the horsepower to transcode files. But, even if it could how would you get the xbox360 to see the files on the xbox1? Doesn't this require WMP11 or Windows Media Connect?
one hint;
transcoding = a fancy name for decoding then encoding.
that is not exactly cheaper than just decoding.
and for ffs, there's something wrong with your shift key.
I Thought The Xbox Might Not Be Powerfull Enough But I Dont Know The Exact CPU Requirements For Transcoding Video. gclassy.com : Gregory (Gus) Class's Media Technology Blog : 360 :: Feb 8, 2006 "Designed for Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 and the Xbox 360, Transcode 360 aims to broaden the support for a wide range of video http://blogs.msdn.com/gclass/archive/2006/02/08/527683.aspxHOME | On-the-fly video transcoding for Xbox 360 and Windows XP (Dvix :: 2 posts - Last post: Nov 25, 2006On-the-fly video transcoding for Xbox 360 and Windows XP (Dvix/Xvid) Xbox 360. http://www.ps3forums.com/showthread.php?t=43121HOME |
Showing The Files In The Xbox 360 Would Be Achieved By Adding The Server Protocol For Media Servers, I Believe This Is Based On UPNP And HTTP,
The HTTP Part Of This Server Is Already Coded Into XBMC And I Am Unsure About The UPNP Part.
Basically I Believe The Xbox Sends A UPNP Request To Find All Media Servers,
Once It Has Found A Media Server It Connects To It Via HTTP Requesting An XML Formatted List Of Files Located On The Media Server. These Files Are Then Mereley Streamed Over A HTTP Connection. Transcoding Occurrs When An Unsupported Video Is Requested From The Device, The Transcoding Engine Begins To Transcode The Video, Streaming The Result Video Data (Of A Supported Video Format. AKA WMV) Directly Back To The Device. The Transcoding Is Completely Transparent To The Device Playing The Video.
The Above Explanation Is By No Means A 100% Representation Of What Takes Place, I Am Currently At Work And Have No Time To Research The Exact Details Of The Particular Protocol's , Requests & Data Formats Involved.
This Is Barely A Rough Outline From Things I Kinda Remember Reading A While Ago.

you would be able to transcode (if you are lucky) at about 320x240 resolution (now i'm being very optimistic), probably even lower in reality.
I have been trying to find something that would stream to my XBOX 360 and give me IMDB scraper type of functionalities that XBMC does. I would love to see a lite installer of XBMC that does just the UPNP server functionality with transcode and the ability to use the XBMC scaper for pulling back the thumbnails to display on the 360.
