ok-so I looked for these and didn't see but if I missed, please forgive. I've only been doing this straight now for about 28 hours. (I like it, the coding that is)
Text Lines? do you let them continue out or do you 'enter' or 'return' ?
Blank code lines? do you get rid of all blank lines or do you just leave them?
(I've seen it both ways?)
I've visited the w3schools site and gone through the tutotial and started a basic
site and have it okay for now. I've tried to understand the code and want to use
code to build and get better. I would like to FTP it and want to go through it before so I don't get any problems there. (Assuming, that I create a folder, place the HTML pages in it and include any pictures, and then FTP) ? yaga Terminator 1138,
you were doing projects and I did not want to bug you and there was no hurry, I've been trying to learn more, and the more I learn it seems the more I forget, and the more I don't get, oh well, that's part of it.
yes, I would like to clear up the unfinished business with that initial site. (1) I used those button options as links in 1st page for two of the links and wondered if there is a way to change the color on those? (can't seem to find that) (2) the top left photo I can't get it to be at the end of the text no matter what locator selection I use. I would also like to learn how to make the nexus button change to say something else when somebody pushes it- like nexus-on. And yes when I get those things fixed, get it listed correctly.
And yes 'Little Big Man' is an interesting little movie, and yes I am a Husker fan, went to UN for a while then transferred and now live in omaha.
As you have time-no hurry. I'm trying to design and plan out a yaga site, but I want to do it right and I want it to pass CSS validation in the end (dizzy trying to learn all the things and it just gets more and more complex) Apple Assembly Line - V5N5 - Feb 1985:: 3045 JSR PRUS.CLEAR YES, NEW FIELD The code beyond line 2530 is hard to follow. well-I've link pic's to a file on the pc, and what I think I need to do, is create another folder, and put the pic's and the html document in their together (re-assocate the pic links to that folder) and then FTP the entire folder to the Host site? Is that correct?
ty
yaga
You have changed your name I see....okay thats beside the point
for hte pictures, for organizational sake, I would place them in a folder called pics or something and put all your pics there and FTP all into that folder. Then on the code side of things, make sure it points to that folder (that has the pics) and that particular picture you want.
Example (www.yourwebpage.org/pics/image001.jpg)
You can also do this (www.yourwebpage.org/image.jpg) if you dont have a lot of pics, in other words you dont need a folder then.
Does this help
-oops, spoke too soon-I just made a new folder and named it with the eventual web site address, www.xxx and so forth and copied the pictures into that folder and then when back and tried to insert a link to one of those pictures in the new folder and it gave the red x box. Is that because the picture is existing in two folders? If I wanted to have two pictures would it work if I renamed the the pictures in one of the folders?
ty you again, and again.
yaga
Okay just a note still, I've been lookin at your site Yaga, and noticed that your parent directory is still off. I also would recommend you rename all of your pictures to make it easier for you. As far as everything else, I think is just a matter of a few tweaks in the code.
I'm not sure if your isp is tellin you to put all of your site into new folder or not. This is just a few tips to consider and help you.
My pleasure Yaga, glad to help, I would like to see when its done. :)
Here is also just a few tips, rename your pictures something easier like huskerN instead of something_some_pic.jgep. I found a few that were like that. It helps to code them in and maintain them later when the site gets bigger. Let me work on a few things and see if you like them. Give me a bit, since I'm working on many things right now and don't want to confuse what I'm trying to say.
thank you DCElliot. I shall go there, I need to get up to speed on so many things. thanks to Terminator 1138 who has baby sat me through some of these last steps, I have been able to create a simple personal website with 1st Page 2000. Great Forum with people who will actually help you, and collaborate on projects as I have read in many of the threads.
thanks again
yaga
yes, thank you. I have these questions answered and now I will put them into practice, but it will probably have to be tomorrow. Just to clarify: Title the folder (containing the pictures and the html document) with the eventual website address? Referring to your example.
thank you, I think I've got this portion. I tested the html document in IE and it appears as it is in 1st Page, and the two links work, and I will remove any large amounts of blank lines and just leave the other long text lines as is for now. then, create the folder, put all in the folder and send it off and see what happens-should be okay, but it will be tomorrow.
I'll try to let you know-thanks again
yaga
I think its mainly for ease of following the code and not just letting it be a huge block. For organizational purposed Me thinks. The return is not seen by the browser rendering engine. Some like the space, its just a preference.
If there is excessive blank lines, I delete them. One or two does not hurt.
I don't understand your last part/question...
are you stating that you are wanting to play and test on the server on how the code works and looks?
Terminator 1138, no hurry, I am trying to plan out another site with graphic images and I did get the Gimp from the site you linked, and the installer info, so I am trying to tune myself to that. ty-yaga
Terminator1138 don't expect much, I'm just trying to establish a baseline of very simple concepts and follow the cyle through to completion. I am an old pencil, rapidograph, chalk and oil painting person trying to re-associate some graphics interest into the digital era. It's almost as fun watching the threads in these forums follow through. I've tried to find the answers to many of my questions on my own, however my fragile knowledge of current digital terms and procedures put me into a spin with the slightest terminology change. I'm re-associating the pictures into a folder at this moment-we'll see. (and, if you don't mind I made a post on the GIMP thread about unzipping, and I saw your name there)
this really is a tight fitting forum if you read back into the threads, the members seem to really support the use of 1st page, my compliments to the energy of this group.

yaga
so you named the folder www.xxx etc, your folder just needs to be names pics and thus when you link to it, www.xxx.com/pics/name of picture here.jpeg.
It does not matter it pics in two locations, but you only need one. Just make sure that your reference is complete to locate pics.
such as img source=pics/image.jpeg.
Just a quickie comment here - make sure you completely understand absolute and relative addressing for your URLs in links and images and such. Relative is almost always better.
A really nice resource on parsing URLs and doing addressing and folder structure can be found at: http://www-ed.fnal.gov/lincon/tech_web_links_types.shtml .

some success, thank you for your patience. I finally got the pic's linked :)
but the page does load (earthlink is my ISP, and my address is
home.earthlink.net/~bdunhaver but that doesn't link directly to the page
it links to a Directory and the file is New folder (??) the address that loads IE
is home.earthlink.net/~bdunhaver/NewFolder/
The background should be black and kind of a yellow gold, but at work it loads as
brown and a lighter brown??
anyway, almost all the way in the completed cycle and I'll get it right yet. What didn't I do right in the file name??
thank you again
yaga
Yaga, I been looking at your site and it looks like your published pages are in the new folder and not your parent directory on Earthlink. What is your FTP software? You can go in sometimes in the FTP software and change the New folder and rename it directly. I saw some husker pics in there, you a NU fan? Some of the movies you listed are pretty cool. I love Little Big Man with Dustin Hoffman, a relic for sure.
Hey, at least you have read and looked into some areas and I applaud you wanting do something new, I'm just here to help and not much of an expert, but we all have to start somewhere.
To me your page can just be something to start with, but I don't expect Earth,Wind and Fire on first go around, Wind would be fine.
Many here go established cuz this is their forum, but has grown more to education than just FP all the way, you can visit some newer threads about editors and see we all like many things. I for one have FP, Dreamweaver, Ace, NoteTAB and a few other code editors only, it just depends on the nak of the day.
I replied to your post on the GIMP, hope that helps too.
-oops, spoke too soon-I just made a new folder and named it with the eventual web site address, www.xxx and so forth and copied the pictures into that folder and then when back and tried to insert a link to one of those pictures in the new folder and it gave the red x box. yaga
Red box indicates source link might be wrong and pic goes here type of thing for reference.
Are you using FP to link pic and what file type is it?
Just remember that The GIMP has a small learning curve, so be patient with it. :)
And remember, it can use Photoshop filters, etc.
